  25. Description of Working Group:

  27. This Working Group is looking at issues involved in
  28. connection-oriented (or stream- or flow-oriented) internet level
  29. protocols.  The long-term intent is to identify the issues involved,
  30. to understand them, to identify algorithms that address them, and to
  31. produce a specification for a protocol that incorporates what the
  32. Working Group has learned.  To achieve this goal, the Group is
  33. defining a two year collaborative research effort based on a common
  34. hardware and software base.  This will include implementing different
  35. algorithms that address the issues involved and performing experiments
  36. to compare them.  On a shorter time-line, ST is a stream-oriented
  37. protocol that is currently in use in the Internet.  A short-term goal
  38. of this Working Group is to define a new specification for ST, called
  39. ST-2, inviting participation by any interested people.  MCHIP and the
  40. Flow Protocol have also been discussed because they include relevant
  41. ideas.
