  15. Description of Working Group:

  17.         The major purpose of this group is to coordinate BGP deployment
  18.         and application in the current Internet.
  19.  
  20.         It intends to create a forum for BGP users to share BGP deployment
  21.         experiences and also provide a channel for users to communicate
  22.         with router vendors who implemented or implementing BGP.
  23.         It also intends to discuss BGP policy application and coordiante
  24.         policy implementation in the current internet routing enviroment
  25.         which includes define the usage of policy, define a mechanism
  26.         to share policy information, etc.

  49.     1) Implementation testing for interoperability and verification
  50.        before production deployment is desirable.
  51.     2) RFC 1267 & 1268 refers to the latest BGP protocol and usage.
  52.     3) Tony Li from cisco volunteered to coordinate joint testing.
  53.        He is reachable at cs@cisco.com. Jessica Yu volunteered Merit as the 
  54.        place where the testing could occur.

  57.         - SDSC - gated on T1 NSS.
  58.         - CA*Net - gated with Dennis Furgusson's extensions.

  60.         - Merit - cisco 8.2(6) on T1 and T3 NSS.

  62.         - IBM Information Network - cisco on T3

  71.      6) Who has implemented it?
  72.         - cisco BGP2 in software release 8.3.
  73.         - NSFNET which supports BGP1 and BGP2.
  74.         - gated which supports BGP1 only.
  75.         - implementation from Canada.
  76.         - BBN in the T20 router - BGP3.
  77.      7) BGP status in gated - by Scott Brim.
  78.         - BGP2 & BGP3.
  79.         - Flexible definition of neighbors.
  80.         - Internal, External, and Test neighbor definition. Test
  81.           dumps everything to peer but believes nothing.
  82.         - IBGP works. Can run with OSPF and synchronizes correctly.
  83.           Currently there is no flexibility to adapt to other IGPs.
  84.         - Shared subnet between external neighbors is enforced.
  85.         - If between two ASs, can have different AS numbers, and ASpaths
  86.           will be correct.
  87.         - Improved performance.
  88.         - RFC 1164 specifies a policy language that has been implemented
  89.           in gated. 
  90.     8) BGP MIB
  91.         - Will be updated to reflect the latest protocol version 1Q92
  92.     9) cisco implementation status - by Tony Li.
  93.         - BGP2 available in 8.3(1) and 8.2(7) soon. 
  94.         - 9.0 available 1Q92 which has BGP2 & BGP3.
  95.             - AS-path access lists are supported. Uses regular expressions.
  96.         - BGP to do list - for future,no commitments.
  97.             - multiple BGP processes.
  98.             - use AS number filter for redistribution into OSPF.
  99.             - performance enhancements.
  100.             - convergence time improvements to IP forwarding table for
  101.               BGP routes.
  102.     10) NSFNET's implementation status - by Yakov Rekhter.
  103.         - current version is BGP2. Plans to use gated's implementation.
  104.         - plans to carry BGP information in IS-IS as an alternative to
  105.           internal BGP.
  106.     11) What sites tried BGP but backed it out and reasons why.
  107.         - NEARnet
  108.             - redistribution problems.
  109.         - ESNet
  110.             - access list problems.
  111.         - MILnet at FIX-E
  112.             - ran into meomory shortage problem due to usage of CSC2
  113.               board.  In the process of upgrading it to CSC3 board.
  114.         - BARRNet
  115.             - multiple vendors interoperating with half running BGP had
  116.               consistency problems.
  117.         - Sesquinet
  118.             - redistribution problems
  119.               will try new software from cisco.
