Description of Working Group:
This working group was chartered to extend the RFC 822 message format to
facilitate multi-media mail and alternate character sets. RFCs 1341
and RFC 1342 document the Multi-Media Extensions for Internet Mail.
The working group will work to progress MIME to Draft Standard status
and provide a forum for the review of standards track content-type
specifications and the review of character set extensions to MIME.
Goals and Milestones:
Done Discuss, debate, and choose a framework for the solution.
Assign writing assignments, and identify issues to be resolved.
Done Review the Charter, and refine the Group's focus. Decide
whether this is a worthwhile effort.
Done Review exiting writing, resolve outstanding issues, identify
new work, and work toward a complete document.
Done Post a first Internet-Draft.
Done Review and finalize the draft document.
Done Submit the document as a Proposed Standard.
Done Post an Internet-Draft for the use of Japanese Characters for
Internet Mail.
Done Post a revised version of the MIME document as an
Internet-Draft.
Done Submit the Japanese Character set specification as an
Informational document.
Done Submit the revised MIME document to the IESG for consideration
as a Draft Standard.
