  39. Welcome to the rec.scouting hierarchy.  This is an unmoderated
  40. Usenet news grouping aimed at Boy and Girl Scouts, Girl Guides,
  41. Cub Scouts, Venturers, Rovers, other scout-like organizations, their leaders,
  42. and all people interested in Scouting and Guiding around the world.

  44. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT POST ARTICLES IN
  45. THE WRONG GROUP.  PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS VERY CAREFULLY.

  47. There are now four groups in the rec.scouting listing.  
  48.  
  49. Rec.scouting.usa, is directed to the large number
  50. of participants that are directly or indirectly involved in
  51. Scouting (and Scout-like organizations) within the United
  52. States of America.  This group is intended to be the primary
  53. place for BSA and GSUSA specific posts.  If you don't know
  54. if your post is BSA specific, please post it here.
  55.  
  56. In rec.scouting.misc 
  57. you will find articles relevant to international
  58. Scout/Guide activities and administration/policy issues.
  59. Questions about and ideas for activities are most welcome.  You are
  60. sure to get answers and support from various participants from various
  61. world-wide organizations who are willing to share their experience.  
  62. All Scout/Guide organizations and
  63. associations around the world are encouraged to discuss activities,
  64. administrative details and ideas here.

  66. Rec.scouting.issues exists as a forum for discussion of 
  67. sensitive and political issues relative to the various aspects of Scouting
  68. and Guiding.
  69.  
  70. Rec.scouting.guide+girl is a group for members of organizations
  71. associated with the World Association of Girl Guides and 
  72. Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).  All parties with an interest in  this 
  73. aspect of Scouting and Guiding are encouraged to participate 
  74. in this group.  This is the international forum for Girl Scouting.

  76. Rec.scouting.misc is an *international* scouting and guiding
  77. forum intended for discussions of all aspects of guiding
  78. and scouting.  Since there are so many BSA and GSUSA scouters
  79. on Usenet, let me note here that rec.scouting.misc is not the
  80. place to post BSA or GSUSA specific posts.

  82. To keep duplicate articles to a minimum,
  83. crossposting between rec.scouting groups is discouraged.

  112. Before reading any further, please go to the newsgroup 
  113. 'news.announce.newusers' and read the posting: 'Rules for posting 
  114. to Usenet'.

  116. This article describes some of the preferred rules for posting
  117. on Usenet.  People posting to the rec.scouting groups are expected to 
  118. know and abide by these rules.
  119.  
  120. It is also recommended to review RFC 1855 "Netiquette Guidelines"

  128. The following guidelines are in addition to the above.
  129.  
  130. o  It is expected that scouts, guides and scouters adhere to the 
  131.     principles of their organization's oath, promise or law pertaining
  132.     to proper behavior.
  133.  
  134. o  Before asking a question, check the Frequently Asked Questions
  135.     (FAQ) here and in the FAQ file for your rec.scouting.* group.  
  136.     Chances are the answer is there.
  137.  
  138. o   Please do not "flame" (insult) anyone in these newsgroups.  
  139.     Discussions will naturally bring disagreements, however, rebuttals 
  140.     should always be made in a rational, logical and mature manner.
  141.     A good rule of thumb:  Be conservative in what you send and
  142.     liberal in what you receive.  You should not send heated messages
  143.     even if you are provoked.  On the other
  144.     hand, you shouldn't be surprised if you get flamed and it's
  145.     prudent not to respond to flames.  Don't get involved in flame wars.  
  146.     Neither post nor respond to incendiary material.  
  147.  
  148. o  If an inappropriate, or off subject note is posted to a group 
  149.     please send a private email to the poster informing them of
  150.     the appropriate subject matter for the group.  Such action should
  151.     be taken with all due respect and in a polite (Scout-like) manner.
  152.     Please do not post a reply to the group.  A posted reply only adds to
  153.     the clutter in the group.

  155. o The rec.scouting hierarchy is international in scope, Readers not
  156.    familiar with your specific organization may have difficulty
  157.    understanding some of your terminology.  In fairness to these
  158.    people, please define terms and expressions in your posting so all
  159.    can understand exactly what you are writing about.
  160.  
  161. o If you post concerning a specific organization (e.g., Scouts Canada)
  162.    Please put the name of the organization (e.g., SC:)
  163.    in the subject line since many organizations share the same
  164.    names for their particular programs (e.g., Cub Scouts).
  165.  
  166. o  English is not the only allowed language on rec.scouting.*;
  167.    however, it is the most widely understood. So if you're posting
  168.    a message in another language, please, if possible, add a short 
  169.    abstract of its content at the beginning.
  170.    
  171. o  Please limit the amount of material included from previous
  172.    postings and try to be concise.  
  173.    However, make sure that you include enough of the original
  174.    post so as to make your follow-up sensible.  
  175.    
  176. o  If you state any facts, please cite a reference where interested
  177.     people can fine further information, and verify the citation.
  178.     Please refrain from making global generalizations, such as
  179.     "The xxx organization is the only organization in the world
  180.      that does such and such."

  182. o  Please re-edit your Subject and Newsgroup lines before sending
  183.    a follow-up. Replies in the third round rarely have a direct
  184.    relation to the original subject.

  186. o  Please remember the charter of each newsgroup.
