  16. The Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) provides a standard method for
  17. transporting multi-protocol datagrams over point-to-point links.  This
  18. document defines a method for negotiating and using Numbered-Mode, as
  19. defined by ISO 7776, to provide a reliable serial link.  This RFC is
  20. the product of the Point-to-Point Protocol Extensions Working Group of
  21. the IETF.
  22.  
  23. This is now a Proposed Standard Protocol.
  24.  
  25. This document specifies an Internet standards track protocol for the
  26. Internet community, and requests discussion and suggestions for
  27. improvements.  Please refer to the current edition of the "Internet
  28. Official Protocol Standards" (STD 1) for the standardization state and
  29. status of this protocol.  Distribution of this memo is unlimited.
