  20. This document defines the changes that need to be made to the Domain
  21. Name System (DNS) to support hosts running IP version 6 (IPv6).  The
  22. changes include a new resource record type to store an IPv6 address, a
  23. new domain to support lookups based on an IPv6 address, and updated
  24. definitions of existing query types that return Internet addresses as
  25. part of additional section processing.  The extensions are designed to
  26. be compatible with existing applications and, in particular, DNS
  27. implementations themselves.  This document is the product of the IPNG
  28. Working Group of the IETF.

  30. This is now a Proposed Standard Protocol.

  32. This document specifies an Internet standards track protocol for the
  33. Internet community, and requests discussion and suggestions for
  34. improvements.  Please refer to the current edition of the "Internet
  35. Official Protocol Standards" (STD 1) for the standardization state and
  36. status of this protocol.  Distribution of this memo is unlimited.
