- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Help for OS/2 Preinstalled Restore ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- The purpose of OS/2 Preinstalled Restore is to restore a system to the way it
- was originally shipped. This includes the restoration of OS/2* base drivers
- bundles, OS/2 ABIOS patch files, all the printer drivers, and all the
- preinstalled-specific utilities and applications. This restoration also
- creates the necessary directory structures, creates and configures the folders
- and objects, and sets up the Boot Manager partition.
-
- 1. Type the source path for the preinstalled restore files.
-
- 2. Select the features you want to restore. To select a feature, use the
- mouse or the Spacebar to place a check mark in the check box next to the
- feature.
-
- For more information about a feature, select from the list below:
-
- o Preinstalled Utilities
- o Base Device Drivers and Fonts
- o Printer Drivers
- o ABIOS Patch Files
- o Boot Manager
-
- Instead of using the selection panel, you can specify the source path and the
- features you want to restore from the command prompt.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Help for Prompt for Diskettes ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- The system is instructing you to insert a diskette into the selected drive.
- Insert the specified diskette into the drive and select OK or press Enter. The
- preinstalled restore program (PLINST.EXE) will then copy all the necessary
- files from that diskette. If you choose to restore all the features, you will
- need all the preinstalled restore diskettes, all the OS/2 2.0 installation
- diskettes, and the OS/2 2.0 printer driver diskettes.
-
-

-
- Use the source path entry field to specify the drive and directory that
- contains the preinstalled restore files. The preinstalled restore program,
- PLINST.EXE, uses this path as the source for all the files it restores. If a
- diskette drive is specified, you will be prompted for diskettes. If a hard
- disk drive or network drive is specified, the rest of the restore procedure
- will be automatic.
-

-
- Select Base Device Drivers and Fonts to restore all the drivers for the disk,
- display, mouse, and fonts. These files enable the Configure tool in the
- Welcome folder to modify the OS/2 2.0 operating system configuration. If you
- plan to use the Configure tool, restore this feature.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Printer Drivers ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for ABIOS Patch Files ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Select ABIOS Patch Files to restore all the ABIOS patch files and change the
- ABIOS.SYS file to include all the patches. The OS/2 restore procedure selects
- the correct files for the system and only restores the necessary files. If you
- transfer a hard disk that has OS/2 installed on it to another system, you might
- need different ABIOS files for the new system. Restoring all the ABIOS files
- will ensure that the correct ABIOS files are loaded for the new system. If you
- do not plan to transfer the drive to another system, you do not need to select
- this feature.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Boot Manager ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Select Boot Manager to restore the Boot Manager and choose the active primary
- partition, which is the partition used to start the computer. If you have
- already restored and configured the Boot Manager for your system, you do not
- need to select this feature.
-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ <hidden> Help for Command Prompt ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- You can specify the source path and all the features to restore from the
- command prompt instead of from the selection panel. The syntax for command
- prompt entry is:
-
- PLINST [/U] [/B] [/P] [/A] [/M] [/F[drivepath]] [/C]
-
- /U Restore Preinstalled Utilities.
-
- /B Restore Base Device Drivers and Fonts.
-
- /P Restore Printer Drivers.
-
- /A Restore ABIOS Patch Files.
-
- /M Restore Boot Manager.
-
- /F[drivepath] Specifies the source drive and path. For example:
-
- /FB:\mysource
-
- /C Restore all features. This option implies /B /P /A /U /M.
-
- If you do not specify the /F parameter, "A:\" is assumed to be the source drive
- and path. If you do not select any features to restore, the main selection
- panel will be displayed. If you specified a source drive and path, it will
- appear in the entry field for the source path.
