ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Help for Controlling the Volume of Multiple Devices ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Volume Control determines the volume level of media players connected to your
computer system in a manner similar to that of an amplifier of a stereo
system.
If other applications (such as a MMPM/2 Media Player) are controlling specific
devices, then; adjusting the Volume Control has the following effects:
o Decreasing the Volume Control will decrease the volume for a device, even if
the controlling application has set volume of the device to the maximum
level.
o Increasing the Volume Control will increase the volume for a device up to the
level set by the controlling application.
o Certain models of the IBM CD-ROM device support only two volume settings, On
or Off. In this case, adjusting the Volume Control has no noticeable effect
on the volume of the device.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Help for MMPM/2 System External Volume Control ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
You can control the volume of an external device regardless of the volume
settings shown by the Volume Control or other applications by using volume
controls on the devices. For example, the volume of a device connected to an
audio amplifier or powered speakers can be raised or lowered even if the Volume
Control settings are unchanged. The exception is if the Volume Control is set
to 0 or is muted.
Once a volume has been set on the devices, the Volume Control program can be
used to lower or raise the volume level. However, certain models of the IBM
CD-ROM device support only two volume settings, On or Off. In this case,
adjusting the Volume Control has no noticeable effect on the volume of the
device.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Help for Adjusting Volume ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Setting the Volume Control to a given level affects devices differently,
depending upon the capability of the particular device.
For example, certain models of the IBM CD-ROM device support only two volume
settings, On or Off. In this case, adjusting the Volume Control has no
noticeable effect on the volume of the device.
Similarly, some devices (such as the IBM M-Audio Capture and Playback Adapter),
reduce the volume more quickly than the Volume Control indicates. That is, if
you use the dial control to reduce the volume from 100%, you will notice that
the volume is effectively zero, even if the volume dial control is indicating
75%.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Help for Saving a Low Volume Control Setting ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Although you cannot save the volume-level setting in the Volume Control window
when the sound is muted, you can adjust the volume to a very low level, save
the setting, then close the Volume Control window. You can use another
application, but you will notice that no audible sound is present.
To produce sound, use the Volume Control window to adjust the volume level to a
higher setting, then save the setting.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Help for Adjusting the Volume Control ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use the Volume Control dial to set the system-wide volume level.
To set the volume:
1. Move the mouse pointer to the plus button (+) to increase the volume level,
or to the minus button (-) to decrease the volume level.
2. Press and hold down mouse button 1, until the volume is at the level you
want.
3. Release the mouse button.
You can also change the volume by:
o Positioning the mouse pointer anywhere along the volume control dial
increment marks and pressing mouse button 1.
o Positioning the mouse pointer anywhere in the upper half of the dial, then
pressing and holding mouse button 1.
o Positioning the mouse pointer on the indicator line of the volume control
dial, pressing and holding either mouse button, and dragging the mouse
pointer within the dial area.
o Positioning the mouse pointer on the volume level value located in the lower
part of the dial, pressing and holding either mouse button, and dragging the
mouse pointer.
Note: The volume is affected by the level set on the Media Player user
interface and the volume control settings on the media player device.
Ensure that those settings are correct, if you cannot adjust the volume
level with the Volume Control dial.
