======== How to run a LAN Network Manager Internal trace ==============
ADD the following line to the end of your config.sys file:
TRACEBUF=63
Be sure to reboot system after changing config.sys
Open an OS/2 window and change to the LM11 directory
Type: DFIRATRC CLEAR ALL
Response will be:
A trace logo
tracing buffer cleared
ALL tracing enabled
There are many options that may be specified other than ALL. Your
IBM Support Center may instruct you to specify one of the other
options, such as BRIDGE (for bridge link tracing), AICMD (for adapter
interface tracing), etc..
Start LNM if it is not already running.
Reproduce the problem.
After the problem has occurred:
From an OS/2 prompt in the LM11 directory, type: DFIRATRC OFF
Response will be:
A trace logo
tracing disabled
If you are running OS/2 2.x:
Type: DFIRAFM2
Press enter after the trace logo appears to bring up the
OS/2 Trace Formatter Window.
Select the FILE from the action bar.
Select SAVE AS from the pulldown.
Select SAVE AS FORMATTED TRACE DATA from the second pulldown.
A dialog box will appear asking for the file name. Enter
DFITRACE.RAS in place of the default name. Take care to enter
this name correctly, or the file will not be formatted.
Press the SAVE button.
You might receive a message box telling you that the file
already exists and asking for confirmation before overwritting
the existing file, if so, select Yes to overwrite the existing
file.
It will take a couple of minutes to save the file. Just wait.
The DASD select light will blink. There will be a message
displayed when the save is complete. Select OK on this message.
Close the trace formatter by double clicking on the upper left
corner of the window. Select OK to overwrite data currently being
used. Ignore any other messages you see.
You will be returned to the OS/2 window. You will see a formatting
message. Just wait. It will eventually end and go back to the cmd
prompt.
If you are running OS/2 1.3:
Type: DFIRAFMT
You will see a message that the trace is being formatted, and then
will return to the command prompt.
Send the file created, DFITRACE.LST (NOT DFITRACE.RAS) to IBM Support.
