IMPORTANT INFORMATION - READ THIS BEFORE YOU INSTALL
____________________________________________________
Before you install the LAN Network Manager Version 1.1 program, ensure
that the following requirements are met:
o If you are using OS/2 Extended Edition (EE) Version 1.3, ensure that
your system is at corrective service diskette (CSD) level 5050 or
later. Read the "Fixes for Problems in IBM OS/2 Version 1.3"
section for problems that may apply.
| o If your network contains an IBM 8230 Controlled Access Unit (CAU),
| ensure that the first 15 characters of the microcode level of the
| CAU are 'C40347A C40347 ' or C40347A C40850 ' to ensure LAN Network
| Manager Version 1.1 compatibility.
Read "Understanding Microcode Levels" for an explanation of the
microcode level fields for 8230 CAUs.
o If your network contains an IBM 8209 LAN Bridge that connects two
Token-Ring segments, ensure that the engineering change (EC) level
is ECA002 EC C25313 or later.
o If you are using OS/2 Version 2.0, ensure that your system is at CSD
level 6055 or 6100. If you are at level 6055, read the "Fixes for
Problems in IBM OS/2 Version 2.0" section for problems that may
apply.
o For more details on changes that went into this PTF, read file
FIXES.DAT.
This PTF does not erase your existing LAN Network Manager database.
During installation, the LAN Network Manager program copies
GraphicsView/2 (GV/2) program files to the \IBMEXQ\DLL directory. If
other programs are using these files, the installation will fail.
Therefore, before you install the LAN Network Manager program, ensure
that all programs that use GV/2 have been stopped.
LAN NETWORK MANAGER COMPATIBILITY
_________________________________
Along with the OS/2 packages listed in Chapter 2, "Planning for
Installation" in the "Getting Started with LAN Network Manager" book,
the LAN Network Manager Version 1.1 program operates on the IBM OS/2
Version 1.3 (CSD level 5050 or later), OS/2 Version 2.0 (CSD level 6055
or later), or OS/2 Version 2.1 (with APARs PJ08829 and PJ08680 applied),
including:
| o IBM OS/2 CM/2 Version 1.01 (with APARs JR07523 and JR07726 applied),
| o IBM OS/2 CM/2 Version 1.1 (with APARs JR07729 and JR07709 applied),
| o IBM Extended Services (ES) 1.0 Communications Manager (with APAR
| JR06101 applied), or IBM ES 1.0 Communications Manager (with Service
| Pack WR06025 and APAR JR07737 applied)
o IBM Database 2 OS/2 (with Select Pack WR07010) or later. or IBM
Extended Services 1.0 Database Manager (with APARs JR06410 and
JR05994 applied or Service Pack WR06035)
o IBM Network Transport Services/2 (with APAR IC07486 with Select Pack
WR07045 or Select Pack WR07020).
The IBM Database Manager program is generally more stable if your hard
drive has been formatted with the File Allocation Table (FAT) option.
If you are running on a hard drive formatted with the High Performance
File System (HPFS), you may have to run the CHKDSK utility periodically.
NOTE: Consult the OS/2 2.1 installation readme file for instructions on
installing ES 1.0 with OS/2 2.1.
FFST/2 AND LAN NETWORK MANAGER
| When you install CM/2 Version 1.01 or CM/2 Version 1.1 on your
workstation, the statement EPWROUT.EXE is added to your CONFIG.SYS file.
The EPWROUT.EXE statement is a part of the FFST/2 product that enables
the CM/2 program to forward alerts to other applications and to
determine to which application they are to be forwarded. Verify that
the value of the EPWROUT.EXE statement is set to 1. This enables LAN
Network Manager alerts to be logged in the LAN Network Manager event log
| and also be forwarded on to the NetView host. In addition, apply APAR
| JR07523 if you are using CM/2 1.01, or APAR JR07729 if you are using
| CM/2 1.1, to enable FFST/2 to forward alert subvector 51 to the host.
ESTABLISHING AN LU6.2 SESSION FOR HOST COMMUNICATION
Establishing an LU6.2 session between the LAN Network Manager program
and NetView involves customizing and defining the following products to
work together:
| 1. CM/2 Version 1.01 (with APAR JR07903 applied) or CM/2 Version 1.1
| (with APAR JR07908 applied)
2. LAN Network Manager
NOTE: Using NetView Version 2 Release 2 with the above combination
enables alerts to flow over an LU6.2 session. In order for RUNCMDs to
flow over an LU6.2 session, NetView Version 2 Release 3 is needed.
Communications Manager/2
| To configure the CM/2 Version 1.01 or CM/2 Version 1.1:
1. Select the Communications Manager Setup icon located in the CM/2
folder.
2. Define the control point (CP) name of the physical unit (PU) for the
workstation.
3. Under the System Network Architecture (SNA) connections in CMSETUP,
define the following:
| a. Partner Network ID for the host (the NETID of your NetView
| host).
| b. Partner node name (the name or the DOMAIN ID of your NetView
| host).
| c. Partner LUs.
| To define the Partner LUs, specify the following CM/2 fields:
| 1) Partner Network ID (the NETID of your NetView host)
| 2) LU name (the name of your NetView host)
| 3) Alias (the name or domain of your NetView host)
| NOTE: To verify the NETID and DOMAIN ID of your NetView host,
| issue 'LISTVAR' from any NetView operator to display their
| values.
4. Add the following statements to the CM/2 *.NDF file:
DEFINE_REMOTE_FOCAL_POINT SNA_DEFINED_MS_CATEGORY(X'23',031)
DESCRIPTION(ALERT CATEGORY)
FQ_PRIMARY_FP_NAME(netid.nodename);
Where:
netid
Is the Partner Network ID
nodename
Is the Partner Node Name
These statements establish an implicit CM/2 relationship. This
means that CM/2 will initiate the LU6.2 session with NetView rather
than NetView sending a command to CM/2 to establish the session.
Once LAN Network Manager, CM/2, and NetView are started, CM/2 will
automatically establish a session with NetView.
LAN Network Manager
For an OS/2 connection, specify the OS/2 service point name. The
service point name is the name of the PU for your workstation. The CP
NAME of the PU may be used if you are using LU6.2 sessions.
Read "Installing LAN Network Manager" in the "Getting Started with LAN
Network Manager" book for more information about defining LAN Network
Manager host parameters.
NEW ICONS
_________
When you open the LAN Network Manager folder, you will see the following
new icons:
Reorg
Migrate
Transfer
Queries-LM11
Read Me
Rupoll
Selecting the Reorg, Migrate, or Transfer icon starts the appropriate
program that operates in the same manner as issuing its command
equivalent from a NetView host or OS/2 command line.
Selecting the Queries-LM11 icon automatically accesses the IBM Database
Manager program and takes you directly to the LAN Network Manager
Reports menu. This enables you to bypass the steps documented in the
"Working with the LAN Network Manager Database" chapter of the "LAN
Network Manager Reference" book.
Selecting the Read Me icon invokes the default OS/2 System Editor
(E.EXE) to view and edit this Read Me file.
Selecting the Rupoll icon displays the Ring Utilization Poller window.
From the Ring Utilization Poller window, you can define a segment number
and the time interval for the LAN Network Manager program to query the
percent of utilization.
You can select the following actions from the Ring Utilization Poller
window:
ADD Select Add to add a segment number and a time interval (in
minutes) to the list. The Add Query window appears. You can
enter the 1-3 digit hexadecimal number of the segment to be
queried and the time interval (1-9999) between ring
utilization queries.
DELETE Select a segment and interval from the list. Then select
Delete to remove the segment and interval from the list.
CHANGE Select a segment and interval from the list. Then select
Change. The Change Query window appears. You can change the
segment number or time interval between ring utilization
queries.
Results from the ring utilization queries are logged in the
RING_PERFORMANCE database table. Access the data in the
RING_PERFORMANCE database table by selecting the Queries-LM11 icon and
then selecting the Rupoll Data query on the LAN Network Manager Reports
menu, or by using the Query Manager program directly.
For more information on the Rupoll facility, read RUPOLL.DOC located in
the LNM11\EXTRAS directory.
| NEW FUNCTION IN LAN NETWORK MANAGER
___________________________________
| 1. Resolutions to alerts are now forwarded to NetView, as well as
| logged in the Event Log at LAN Network Manager.
| 2. Topology changes such as "linked to a bridge" and "monitored adapter
| definition changed" are also forwarded to NetView. This enables
| MultiSystem Manager to update the resource object data manager
| (RODM) and subsequently reflect the topology changes at the Graphic
| Monitor Facility Host Subsystem (GMFHS).
| DEFINING ALERT FILTERS TO FILTER RESOLUTIONS
____________________________________________
| To block alert resolutions forwarded to NetView, ensure that you define
| the alert filter based on the alert ID of the alert that you wish to
| filter. You can also filter alerts sent to NetView by defining the
| filter based on a resource name or alert type, but the alert resolutions
| will continue to be forwarded to NetView.
| NEW CODE POINTS FOR NETVIEW VERSION 2 RELEASE 3
_______________________________________________
| The following files will be copied into the LM11/EXTRAS subdirectory:
| FLCSL81 - Additional code points to be included in BNJ81UTB
| FLCSL93 - Additional code points to be included in BNJ93UTB
| FLCSL96 - Additional code points to be included in BNJ96UTB
| These files contain additional NetView code points for LAN Network
| Manager support that are not defined in NetView releases prior to
| NetView Version 2 Release 4. If you are using NetView Version 2 Release
| 3, upload these files to NetView, extract the information contained in
| them, and add the information to the user tables. The file names
| correspond with the user table names. For example, the data located in
| the FLCSL81 file should be placed in the BNJ81UTB user table.
| Read "NetView Customization" for more information about NetView code
| points and user tables.

LAN NETWORK MANAGER SUPPORT FOR THE IBM 6611 NETWORK PROCESSOR
______________________________________________________________
The IBM LAN Network Manager Version 1.1 program provides management
support in a network where Token-Ring segments are connected by the IBM
6611 Network Processor with either a local or remote bridged connection.
The LAN Network Manager program supports the following configurations:
o Local 6611 and remote 6611-to-6611 connections
The LAN Network Manager program provides management for the
following devices on the Token-Ring segments to which the LAN
Network Manager program has a bridged path but no link:
- IBM 8230 Controlled Access Unit
The LAN Network Manager program supports management of IBM 8230
Controlled Access Units (CAUs). To request management of these
CAUs, add the segment numbers to which these CAUs are attached
to the list of CAU qualifiers. A CAU qualifier is a segment
that contains a CAU that is to be managed remotely. Upon
resynchronization, the LAN Network Manager program searches
these segments for CAUs. As the LAN Network Manager program
locates each CAU, it adds the CAU to the list of CAUs displayed
on the Controlled Access Units window, and attempts to register
with the CAU.
- IBM 8220 Optical Fiber Converter
The LAN Network Manager program also supports management of IBM
8220 Optical Fiber Converters. The LAN Network Manager program
logs alerts when the 8220 sends frames reporting that the backup
path is beaconing or is wrapped to the main path. When the 8220
stops reporting the problem, the LAN Network Manager program
logs an event that states that the problem has been cleared.
- LAN devices
The LAN Network Manager program provides the existing device
support for Token-Ring segments. Specifically, the LAN Network
Manager program supports the following:
-- Trace and Performance Program
-- Critical Resource Monitoring
-- Alert Transport Facility
o 6611 to remote IBM Token-Ring Network Bridge Connections
In addition to the local 6611 and remote 6611-to-6611 device support
listed earlier, the LAN Network Manager program supports the
following configurations with Token-Ring segments.
The 6611 Network Processor allows multiple remote Token-Ring Network
Bridges to attach to a single local 6611. To take advantage of this
support, ensure that you are using the IBM Token-Ring Network Bridge
Program Version 2.2 and have applied PTF UR37051. The LAN Network
Manager program has been modified to accept bridge definitions that
contain duplicate adapter addresses so that you can manage the 6611
multiport connections.
Although the LAN Network Manager program cannot establish a link
session with the 6611, it can link through the 6611 to the
Token-Ring Network Bridge program. In this configuration, the 6611
always is the primary (local) side of the split bridge pair, and the
Token-Ring Network Bridge is the secondary (remote) side of the
bridge.
The LAN Network Manager program provides management for the
Token-Ring bridge side segments in this configuration, but the
program does not provide management for the segment attached to the
6611 bridge side. The Token-Ring media management provided is
similar to the management of Token-Ring segments connected by linked
bridges.
The LAN Network Manager program can obtain information about the
segment to which the remote Token-Ring Network Bridge is attached
and about the devices on that segment. For segments attached
through the 6611 and the Token-Ring Network Bridge, the LAN Network
Manager program provides the following support:
- Configuration report server (CRS) and ring parameter server
(RPS) management
- Limited ring error monitor (REM) function
All Token-Ring segment soft errors and temporary beacons are
reported to the LAN Network Manager program. Because the LAN
Network Manager program cannot receive information from the
6611, hard errors (such as permanent beacon errors) that cause
the Token-Ring Network Bridge to lose its reporting link cannot
be reported to the LAN Network Manager program. This lost link
condition causes an alert at the LAN Network Manager program.
- Limited bridge management
You cannot change the bridge configuration or request
performance data for connections between the 6611 and the
Token-Ring Network bridges.

OTHER LAN NETWORK MANAGER PROGRAM CONSIDERATIONS
________________________________________________
Read the following section for miscellaneous LAN Network Manager
information to consider.
| CHANGED ALERT ID
| The alert type for message DFIPD187 "Bridge performance threshold
| exceeded" has changed from Permanent to Performance. As a result, the
| alert ID has changed from EE64FB52 to 61D67C7D. This alert is generated
| and forwarded to the NetView host each time the threshold of percentage
| of frames lost or the threshold of telecommunications link errors is
| exceeded.
SUPPORT FOR THE IBM 16/4 LANSTREAMER MC32 ADAPTER
LAN Station Manager Version 1.0 PTF UR39501 recognizes and supports new
Token-Ring adapters such as the LANStreamer adapter. In order to see
the attachment data or ring utilization from these new adapters, ensure
that you have applied PTF UR39501.
| To see the ring utilization from the LANStreamer adapter, use the NDIS
| MAC device driver, level 1.20.07 or later, for the LANStreamer adapter.
This is in addition to applying PTF UR39501.
UNDERSTANDING MICROCODE LEVELS
The microcode level field for 8230 CAUs is defined as follows:
C40347A C40850 V2R2 C98404
| | | |
| | | Operational Code Level
| | |
| | Operational Code Identifier
| |
| RPU/POST Code Level
|
Adapter Code Level
Where
ADAPTER CODE LEVEL
Is the level in the LAN Network Manager-required field
upgrade to the 8230 CAU.
RPU/POST CODE LEVEL
Is the Remote Program Update/Power On Self Test.
This level may also read 'C40347'.
OPERATION CODE IDENTIFIER
Changes with each release.
OPERATION CODE LEVEL
Changes with each release.
The adapter code and the RPU/POST Code are contained EPROM which is
installed at the factory. Any change must be made by IBM service
personnel. The operational code is in Flash EEPROM which may be
rewritten from any controlling LAN Network Manager registered with this
8230.
INSTALLING FONTS
The LAN Network Manager program uses an 8 point Helvetica font for its
views when using the graphical interface. If your operating system does
not have this font, you will receive an error message when you start the
LAN Network Manager program that indicates that the Helvetica 80 font
has not been found.
To eliminate this message, either install the 8 point Helvetica font or
use the alternate set of IBM GraphicsView/2 (GV/2) profiles shipped with
the LAN Network Manager program.
To install the alternate GV/2 profiles:
1. Shutdown the LAN Network Manager program.
2. Rename the alternate GV/2 profiles provided with the LAN Network
Manager program as follows:
PROFDEF.DAT => PROFDEF.BAK
PROFCRNT.DAT => PROFCRNT.BAK
PROFDEF.DFT => PROFDEF.DAT
PROFCRNT.DFT => PROFCRNT.DAT
3. Restart the LAN Network Manager program.
The LAN Network Manager program will use the default system font for its
views instead of the 8 point Helvetica font.
INSTALLING THE LAN NETWORK MANAGER ONLINE DOCUMENTATION
To install the online version of the LAN Network Manager documentation:
1. Insert diskette 1 in drive A.
2. Type
A:BOOKS d:\books
Where d is the drive and path defined in your CONFIG.SYS file as the
BookManager book directory.
The BookManager book directory is defined by the "SET BOOKMGR="
statement in your CONFIG.SYS file.
MOVING AN IBM 8230 CONTROLLED ACCESS UNIT
Perform the following steps when moving a CAU to another segment to
prevent it from being displayed on more than one segment:
1. Turn off the CAU.
2. Delete the CAU definition by:
o Selecting the CAU from the Controlled Access Units window, then
select Delete from the Actions pull-down menu.
o If you are using the graphical interface, select the CAU that
you are moving from a segment level view, then select Delete
definition from the Actions pull-down menu.
3. After you have relocated the CAU, redefine it by:
o Selecting Add CAU definition from the Actions pull-down menu on
the Controlled Access Units window.
o If you are using the graphical interface, select Add definition
from the Actions pull-down menu on a network level view, segment
level view, or CAU level view, then select Add CAU from the
cascading menu.
EXITING AND RESTARTING THE LAN NETWORK MANAGER PROGRAM
Before exiting or restarting the LAN Network Manager program, we
recommend that you close all the LAN Network Manager program windows and
messages, and stop all host command lists issuing LAN Network Manager
commands that may be running.
Before recycling the NetView program, we also recommend stopping all
host command lists issuing LAN Network Manager commands.
LAN NETWORK MANAGER FUNCTIONAL ADDRESSES
The System Parameters function of the LAN Network Manager program
displays the functional addresses that the program's adapter had open
the last time the adapter was queried. This list is also displayed with
the Configuration List function. Sometimes, the query is completed
before the Remote Program Update (RPU) function of the LAN Network
Manager program has opened. This results in an incomplete list of
functional addresses because RPU may be open and its functional address
might not be included in the list.
When this occurs, you can get the correct updated list of functional
addresses by issuing a Resync segment request to the local segment from
the Configuration List. The correct list will then also be displayed by
the System Parameters function the next time it is accessed.
BLANK BRIDGE ID IN THE NETWORK MANAGEMENT VECTOR TRANSPORT
If the LAN Network Manager program generates an alert for a bridge to
which it is no longer linked, the bridge ID in the Network Management
Vector Transport may be blank because the entry in the bridge table has
been cleared.
USING THE LAN NETWORK MANAGER PROGRAM ON THE ALTERNATE ADAPTER
If you run the LAN Network Manager program on the alternate adapter on
this workstation and you also run the LAN Station Manager program on
this workstation, use the LAN Station Manager installation and
configuration aid to enable adapter 1 for the heterogeneous LAN
management support. Otherwise, the LAN Station Manager support will not
function correctly with the LAN Network Manager program.
