TCP/IP 2.0 for OS/2 X Window System Server Corrective Service Information
NOTE: You must install the Base Kit CSD (UN56401) before you install
this CSD and use the upgraded X Window System Server Kit.
1. Obtaining Future CSDs Electronically
You can obtain Corrective Service Diskettes (CSDs) electronically
by:
o Using FTP to access SOFTWARE.WATSON.IBM.COM as Anonymous.
NOTE: Fixes for TCP/IP for OS/2 are located in the
pub\tcpip\os2 directory.
o Establishing a modem connection to the NCSBBS bulletin board
at 1-919-517-0001.
NOTE: Set your modem settings to: none,8,1.
The latest CSDs for TCP/IP Version 2.0 for OS/2 are shown in the
following table:

*UN68122 CORRECTIVE SERVICE DISKETTE*
*************************************
2. Corrective Service Diskette (CSD) UN68122 reflects APARs applied to
the TCP/IP 2.0 for OS/2: X Window System Server Kit. For a list of
APARs included in this CSD, see 'APARs Fixed' below.
This README contains additions and corrections that apply to the
information accompanying the X Window System Server (PMX) Kit.
It discusses function that has been included in previous
CSDs but has not been documented in the BookManager softcopy
edition of the "X Window System Server Guide." Refer to PMXCSD.DOC
or the BookManager file (KFRL1MST.BOO) for information regarding
the latest updates to the PMX kit.
This CSD is for the TCP/IP 2.0 for OS/2 X Window System Server Kit Only.
The README information is organized as follows:
3. ALLFONTS Command
4. Text Speed
5. Font Support
6. Japanese Support
7. Server Resetting
8. APARs fixed in this CSD
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
3. ALLFONTS Command
The ALLFONTS command is a REXX program that converts
fonts from .bdf or. pcf format to .xfn (OS/2 PM private)
format. The input directory is the current directory.
------
Syntax
┌─ -pcf─┐ ┌─ current dir──┐
>>──allfonts──┼───────┼──┼───────────────┼──┬─────┬────────>
└─ -bdf─┘ └─ -o directory─┘ └─ -m─┘
>──┬─────────┬────────────────────────────────────────────><
└─ -erase─┘
-bdf
Converts all *.bdf files to .xfn format. The default is to
convert all *.pcf files to .xfn format.
-o directory
Specifies the target, or output, directory to be used. The
default directory is the current directory.
-m
Executes the MKFONTDR command in the target, or output,
directory.
NOTE: When -m is specified, only one font format may exist
in the same directory. Move or rename the files in the
output directory before executing the MKFONTDR command, or
specify the -erase parameter.
-erase
Searches the output directory for file names with multiple
font formats. If .pcf and .xfn font files with identical
file names are found, the .pcf files are deleted.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Text Speed
For .pcf format fonts, text speed has been significantly increased,
particularly for all-white or all-black lettering. In order to
take maximum advantage of these speedups, you may have to
modify your Application Default files (.Xdefaults) so that
text foreground colors are black or white.
Fastest text speed, however, will be realized with the recent
availability of native PM Font support. For information about
the types of fonts that can be converted to native PM, refer to
PMXCSD.DOC or the KFRL1MST.BOO (BookManager) softcopy edition
of the "X Window System Server Guide."
Other major factors which can enhance text speed with this
PMX version version are using a fast CPU and fast
display adapters such as SVGA or XGA. However, the efficiency
can also vary with the PM device driver.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Font Support
The X11R5 Speedo fonts are available for use with PMX. However,
do not place the \tcpip\x11\speedo directory first on the font
path. PMX has problems in this situation, especially if the fonts
are used for menus.
The xfd utility is still the X11R4 version.
The new PMX in this Corrective Service Diskette supports the use
of an X11R5 font server.
If the font compiler BDFTOPCF is started with no options, it
silently waits for you to enter file information. You can press
the Ctrl and z keys together and then press Enter to stop BDFTOPCF.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Japanese Support
This Corrective Service Diskette provides some fixes so that PMX
will run in the OS2J operating system without trapping. The
Japanese fonts that are included with PMX are a standard part of
the MIT X11R5 distribution, and are not a part of the OS2J
operating system. Two Japanese xmodmap keyboard files are also
fixed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Server Resetting
Resetting the server is now supported, both by the standard X
protocol functions, and by a menu item. This causes all X
applications to be closed, without shutting down the server.
Normally when all X applications have disconnected, PMX will not
reset automatically. Instead it retains various properties and
atoms that normally would be deleted at that time. This is not the
standard X server behavior. If you need to have the standard X
server behavior in this situation, you may either do a reset server
manually from the command menu, or you may have it done
automatically by including "-resetpmx" (without the quotes) on the
PMX or XINIT command line.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
