  3.      NOTE:  You must install the Base Kit CSD (UN56401) before you install
  4.             this CSD and use the upgraded X Window System Server Kit.

  6.   1. Obtaining Future CSDs Electronically

  8.      You can obtain Corrective Service Diskettes (CSDs) electronically
  9.      by:

  11.        o   Using FTP to access SOFTWARE.WATSON.IBM.COM as Anonymous.

  13.            NOTE:  Fixes for TCP/IP for OS/2 are located in the

  58.   2. Corrective Service Diskette (CSD) UN68122 reflects APARs applied to
  59.      the TCP/IP 2.0 for OS/2: X Window System Server Kit.  For a list of
  60.      APARs included in this CSD, see 'APARs Fixed' below.

  63.         This README contains additions and corrections that apply to the
  64.         information accompanying the X Window System Server (PMX) Kit.
  65.         It discusses function that has been included in previous
  66.         CSDs but has not been documented in the BookManager softcopy
  67.         edition of the "X Window System Server Guide."  Refer to PMXCSD.DOC
  68.         or the BookManager file (KFRL1MST.BOO) for information regarding
  69.         the latest updates to the PMX kit.

  86.     3.  ALLFONTS Command
  87.  
  88.         The ALLFONTS command is a REXX program that converts
  89.         fonts from .bdf or. pcf format to .xfn (OS/2 PM private)
  90.         format.  The input directory is the current directory.

  105.       Converts all *.bdf files to .xfn format.  The default is to
  106.       convert all *.pcf files to .xfn format.
  107.  
  108.    -o directory
  109.       Specifies the target, or output, directory to be used.  The
  110.       default directory is the current directory.
  111.  
  112.    -m
  113.       Executes the MKFONTDR command in the target, or output,
  114.       directory.
  115.  
  116.       NOTE:  When -m is specified, only one font format may exist
  117.       in the same directory.  Move or rename the files in the
  118.       output directory before executing the MKFONTDR command, or
  119.       specify the -erase parameter.

  122.       Searches the output directory for file names with multiple
  123.       font formats.  If .pcf and .xfn font files with identical
  124.       file names are found, the .pcf files are deleted.

  130.     4.  Text Speed
  131.  
  132.         For .pcf format fonts, text speed has been significantly increased,
  133.         particularly for all-white or all-black lettering.  In order to
  134.         take maximum advantage of these speedups, you may have to
  135.         modify your Application Default files (.Xdefaults) so that
  136.         text foreground colors are black or white.
  137.  
  138.         Fastest text speed, however, will be realized with the recent
  139.         availability of native PM Font support.  For information about
  140.         the types of fonts that can be converted to native PM, refer to
  141.         PMXCSD.DOC or the KFRL1MST.BOO (BookManager) softcopy edition
  142.         of the "X Window System Server Guide."
  143.  
  144.         Other major factors which can enhance text speed with this
  145.         PMX version version are using a fast CPU and fast
  146.         display adapters such as SVGA or XGA.  However, the efficiency
  147.         can also vary with the PM device driver.

  153.     5.  Font Support
  154.  
  155.         The X11R5 Speedo fonts are available for use with PMX.  However,
  156.         do not place the \tcpip\x11\speedo directory first on the font
  157.         path.  PMX has problems in this situation, especially if the fonts
  158.         are used for menus.
  159.  
  160.         The xfd utility is still the X11R4 version.
  161.  
  162.         The new PMX in this Corrective Service Diskette supports the use
  163.         of an X11R5 font server.
  164.  
  165.         If the font compiler BDFTOPCF is started with no options, it
  166.         silently waits for you to enter file information.  You can press
  167.         the Ctrl and z keys together and then press Enter to stop BDFTOPCF.

  173.     6.  Japanese Support
  174.  
  175.         This Corrective Service Diskette provides some fixes so that PMX
  176.         will run in the OS2J operating system without trapping.  The
  177.         Japanese fonts that are included with PMX are a standard part of
  178.         the MIT X11R5 distribution, and are not a part of the OS2J
  179.         operating system.  Two Japanese xmodmap keyboard files are also
  180.         fixed.

  186.     7.  Server Resetting
  187.  
  188.         Resetting the server is now supported, both by the standard X
  189.         protocol functions, and by a menu item.  This causes all X
  190.         applications to be closed, without shutting down the server.
  191.  
  192.         Normally when all X applications have disconnected, PMX will not
  193.         reset automatically.  Instead it retains various properties and
  194.         atoms that normally would be deleted at that time.  This is not the
  195.         standard X server behavior.  If you need to have the standard X
  196.         server behavior in this situation, you may either do a reset server
  197.         manually from the command menu, or you may have it done
  198.         automatically by including "-resetpmx" (without the quotes) on the
  199.         PMX or XINIT command line.

  260.                      HARDWARE DEPENDENCIES

  263. |   ATI Mach32 Video Controllers:  Various TRAPs have been reported to      
  264. |   PMX on OS/2 machines with video cards using the ATI mach32 chipset,     
  265. |   during the beta test of UN68122 CSD.  These problems were resolved      
  266. |   by upgrading the OS/2 device drivers to the latest version available    
  267. |   from ATI.  Retrieve and apply these files:                              
  268. |      M32v85.ZIP - "ATI mach32 release 2.4 OS/2 2.11 Display Driver v.85a" 
  269. |      ATILDR11.ZIP - "Loader/install code for above device driver."
