  2.              IBM SCSI-2 Fast PCI-Bus Adapter Support Diskette
  3.           *******************************************************

  5.        This README file contains instructions for installing the IBM*
  6.        SCSI-2 Fast PCI adapter device drivers for Novell** Netware**
  7.        Versions 3.1X and 4.0 or later, Windows NT**, OS/2* 2.X, or
  8.        the DOS/Windows 3.1 ASPI manager driver and/or CD-ROM device
  9.        driver and CD file system extensions.  It is recommended
  10.        that you print this README file prior to installing the files.
  11.

  13.      Note: For standard DOS/Windows 3.1 SCSI hard disk support, no
  14.            device drivers are required, the SCSI-2 Fast PCI adapter
  15.            BIOS provides SCSI hard disk support automatically.  The
  16.            DOS/Windows 3.1 ASPI manager driver is only required to
  17.            be installed if devices other than hard disks are being
  18.            attached to the SCSI-2 adapter and ASPI device specific
  19.            drivers have been supplied with those devices or have
  20.            been obtained from another source.

  24.           Installing DOS/Windows 3.1 ASPI Manager and CD-ROM Support
  25.           ----------------------------------------------------------
  26.  
  27.        Use the instructions in this section if you have non-hard disk
  28.        SCSI devices to install which have ASPI compliant device drivers.
  29.  
  30.        1. Turn on the display and system unit.  Wait for the DOS prompt.
  31.  
  32.        2. Insert the IBM SCSI-2 Fast PCI Bus Adapter Device Drivers
  33.           Diskette which contains the IBMASPCI.SYS driver and other
  34.           files required for DOS/Windows support into the diskette drive.
  35.  
  36.        3. Type the following:
  37.  
  38.                  copy a:\IBMASPCI.SYS c:\
  39.  
  40.           and then press Enter.
  41.  
  42.           To include support for IBM CD-ROM drives, also type the following:
  43.  
  44.                  copy a:\IBMPCICD.SYS c:\
  45.  
  46.           and then press Enter.
  47.  
  48.                  copy a:\MSCDEX.EXE c:\
  49.  
  50.           and then press Enter.
  51.  
  52.        4. Edit the DOS config.sys file to add the following statement.
  53.  
  54.                 device=c:\IBMASPCI.SYS
  55.  
  56.           NOTE: A /Q parameter may be added to the end of this device=
  57.                 statement to supress the display of messages while the
  58.                 driver is scanning for SCSI adapters and devices.
  59.  
  60.           To include support for IBM CD-ROM drives, also add the following
  61.           statement after the device=c:\IBMASPCI.SYS statement.
  62.  
  63.                 device=c:\IBMPCICD.SYS
  64.  
  65.        5. To include support for the CD-ROM file system, edit the DOS
  66.           autoexec.bat file to add the following statement.
  67.  
  68.                 MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 /M:10
  69.  
  70.           NOTE: It is recommended that the version of MSCDEX.EXE shipped
  71.                 on this diskette be used with this adapter.

  73.        6. Shutdown and then restart the system to activate the driver(s).
  74.

  77.      Installing Device Drivers for Novell NetWare Versions 3.1X or 4.X
  78.   -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  79.  
  80.        Use the instructions in this section if you have Novell NetWare
  81.        Version 3.1X or 4.X installed.
  82.  
  83.   The NetWare driver (IBMPSCSI.DSK) supports disks, CD-ROM drives, and the
  84.   NetWare SBackup utility for tape backup support directly; therefore,
  85.   TAPEDAI.DSK and CDNASPI.DSK should NOT be loaded.  The driver does support
  86.   an ASPI interface via the IBMASPI.NLM or IBMENTRY.NLM which has been tested
  87.   with the following vendor tape backup software. The phone number for
  88.   further information on each vendor product is provided below.

  90.               Palindrome** - Network Archivist** (708-505-3300)
  91.               Cheyenne**   - ARCserv**           (516-484-5110)
  92.  
  93.   NOTE: Tape drives which do not support 4K block sizes will result in a
  94.         warning message that they must use ASPI tape backup software.
  95.  
  96.  
  97.        1. Turn on the display and system unit.
  98.  
  99.        2. Prepare the NetWare startup drive according to the instructions
  100.           in the NetWare manual.
  101.  
  102.        3. Insert the IBM SCSI-2 Fast PCI Bus Adapter Device Drivers
  103.           Diskette which contains the IBMPSCSI.DSK driver and other
  104.           files required for Netware support into the diskette drive.
  105.  
  106.        4. Type the following:
  107.  
  108.                  copy a:\IBMPSCSI.DSK d:
  109.  
  110.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  111.  
  112.           The IBMPSCSI.DSK driver is the base device driver for the
  113.           IBM SCSI-2 FAST PCI Bus Adapter which supports hard disks,
  114.           IBM CD-ROM drives, IBM tape drives, and IBM Rewritable Optical
  115.           Disk drives.  Additional Netware Loadable Modules (NLMs)
  116.           described below are also provided to support Netware ASPI
  117.           compliant device drivers required by SCSI device drivers
  118.           and Netware compatible server backup software packages.
  119.  
  120.        5. Type the following:
  121.  
  122.                  copy a:\IBMASPI.NLM d:
  123.  
  124.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  125.  
  126.           The IBMASPI.NLM exports the "ASPI_Entry" entry point and sends
  127.           IOCTL commands to the IBMPSCSI.DSK module. These two modules
  128.           are usually all that is required for both disk and ASPI support.
  129.  
  130.        6. Type the following:
  131.  
  132.                  copy a:\SCSISCAN.NLM d:
  133.  
  134.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  135.  
  136.           Use of this module is optional and is provided to aid in verifying
  137.           that the customer has successfully installed the IBMPSCSI.DSK,
  138.           IBMASPI.NLM, IBM PCI SCSI adapter and devices. Successful
  139.           execution of this NLM will result in a screen display showing
  140.           all attached SCSI devices and their ID's. It is recommended that
  141.           this NLM be run prior to installing tape backup software.
  142.  
  143.        7. Type the following:
  144.  
  145.                  copy a:\IBMENTRY.NLM d:
  146.  
  147.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  148.  
  149.           Use of the IBMENTRY.NLM file is optional and is provided for
  150.           systems which already have another vendor's SCSI adapter
  151.           configured to use the exported "ASPI_Entry" entry point. The
  152.           export name of "IBM_Entry" is provided to ASPI device drivers as
  153.           an alternate entry point in this situation.
  154.  
  155.        8a. If you are using Netware version 3.12, the following system
  156.            patches also must be copied.
  157.  
  158.           Type the following:
  159.  
  160.                  copy a:\nw312\DAICCFIX.NLM d:
  161.  
  162.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  163.  
  164.           Type the following:
  165.  
  166.                  copy a:\nw312\REALMFIX.NLM d:
  167.  
  168.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  169.  
  170.           Type the following:
  171.  
  172.                  copy a:\nw312\PM312.NLM d:
  173.  
  174.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  175.  
  176.        8b. If you are using Netware version 4.xx, the following system
  177.            patches also must be copied.
  178.  
  179.           Type the following:
  180.  
  181.                  copy a:\nw4xx\DAICCFIX.NLM d:
  182.  
  183.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  184.  
  185.           Type the following:
  186.  
  187.                  copy a:\nw4xx\REALMFIX.NLM d:
  188.  
  189.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  190.  
  191.           Type the following:
  192.  
  193.                  copy a:\nw4xx\PM401.NLM d:
  194.  
  195.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  196.  
  197.        9. If you are using Cheyenne ARCserve server backup software for
  198.           DOS Version 4.0 or for Windows Version 5.0 or earlier, you must
  199.           also install the following new version of ASPI50.NLM.
  200.  
  201.           Type the following:
  202.  
  203.                  copy a:\ASPI50.NLM d:
  204.  
  205.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  206.  
  207.       10. To start the NetWare operating system, type the following at the
  208.           command prompt:
  209.  
  210.                  SERVER
  211.  
  212.           and press Enter.
  213.  
  214.       11. At this time, make sure all activity on the server has stopped.
  215.           Then load the DAICCFIX.NLM and REALMFIX.NLM NetWare patch files
  216.           in that order if they were copied in step 8a or 8b above and
  217.           you are using Netware version 3.12 or 4.xx.
  218.  
  219.           NOTE: The PM312.NLM or PM401.NLM patch files will be loaded
  220.                 automatically.
  221.  
  222.       12. At the NetWare server console prompt, type the following:
  223.  
  224.                  LOAD d:IBMPSCSI
  225.  
  226.           (where d: is the NetWare startup drive) and press Enter.
  227.  
  228.            This loads the basic device driver required for Netware
  229.            support.  The appropriate NLMs that you chose to copy above
  230.            should also be loaded at this time depending on your version
  231.            of Netware and other installed equipment/software.
  232.  
  233.    In summary a customer should first load IBMPSCSI.DSK then IBMASPI.NLM.
  234.    Finally it is recommended that a customer load SCSISCAN.NLM which will
  235.    do an SCSI scan of the bus using the ASPI interface to verify that
  236.    the SCSI adapter, SCSI devices, NLM and DSK are loaded and operating
  237.    properly. Any problems up to this point should be directed to IBM
  238.    customer support.
  239.  
  240.    NOTE: Before creating or deleting NetWare disk partitions with the
  241.          NetWare INSTALL.NLM utility while running NetWare 3.12 or 4.xx,
  242.          the IBMASPI.NLM and/or IBMENTRY.NLM must be unloaded.

  245.             Installing SCSI-2 Device Drivers for Windows NT
  246.          ------------------------------------------------------
  247.  
  248.        The IBMPSCSI.SYS device driver supports the Windows NT and Windows
  249.        NT Advanced Server operating systems.  The IBMPSCSI miniport driver
  250.        can be installed during the installation of Windows NT or on an
  251.        existing Windows NT system. The installation procedures are described
  252.        below.
  253.  
  254.        To install the IBMPSCSI.SYS miniport driver during the installation
  255.        of Windows NT do the following:
  256.  
  257.              1. Boot the Windows NT install diskette
  258.              2. Select the Custom Setup "C" option
  259.              3. Select S to configure additional SCSI adapters
  260.              4. Select other
  261.              5. Insert the IBM SCSI-2 Fast PCI Bus Adapter Device Drivers
  262.                 Diskette which contains the IBMPSCSI.SYS driver into the
  263.                 diskette drive.
  264.              6. Press enter
  265.              7. Continue install
  266.  
  267.  
  268.        To install the IBMPSCSI.SYS miniport driver to an existing Windows
  269.        NT system do the following:
  270.  
  271.              1. Select Windows NT Setup from the Main program group
  272.              2. Select Options from the Windows NT Setup Dialog Box
  273.              3. Select Add/Remove SCSI adapters from the Options Box
  274.              4. Select Add from the SCSI adapter Setup Dialog Box
  275.              5. Select OK from the Setup Message Pop-up
  276.              6. Select "Other" as the selected adapter in the option field
  277.                 of the Selected SCSI Adapter Option Dialog Box. ("Other" is
  278.                 the last item in the list)
  279.              7. Insert the IBM SCSI-2 Fast PCI-Bus Adapter Support Diskette
  280.                 which contains the IBMPSCSI.SYS driver into drive A.
  281.              8. Select OK from the Insert Diskette Dialog Box.
  282.              9. Select OK from the Select OEM Option Dialog Box.
  283.             10. Select Install from the Select SCSI Adapter Option Dialog Box.
  284.             11. Select Continue from the Windows NT Setup Dialog Box.
  285.             12. The driver has now been installed.
  286.             13. Select Close from the SCSI Adapter Setup Dialog Box.
  287.             14. To Activate the driver, Exit Windows NT Setup and Reboot
  288.                 Windows NT.

  292.            Installing SCSI-2 Device Drivers for OS/2 2.0 or Later
  293.            ------------------------------------------------------
  294.  
  295.        If you are performing a new OS/2 installation from diskettes,
  296.        follow the standard OS/2 installation procedure which will
  297.        automatically install the IBMINT13.I13 device driver. Then follow
  298.        the procedure below.  If you are performing a new OS/2
  299.        installation from CD-ROM, then follow the instructions in the
  300.        OS/2 Installation Guide to copy the IBMPSCSI.ADD from this
  301.        diskette to the root directory on the copy of Diskette 1, edit the
  302.        CONFIG.SYS file, and complete the installation.
  303.  
  304.        Use the instructions below if you have OS/2 2.0 or later already
  305.        installed.
  306.  
  307.        1. Turn on the display and server.
  308.  
  309.        2. Put the support diskette in drive A.
  310.  
  311.        3. From any OS/2 full-screen session, type:
  312.  
  313.                  DDINSTAL
  314.  
  315.           and press Enter.
  316.  
  317.        4. Select "IBM SCSI-2 Fast PCI-Bus Adapter Support Installation"
  318.           from the menu and press Enter.  This copies the SCSI-2 device
  319.           drivers to your hard disk and adds these BASEDEV statements to your
  320.           CONFIG.SYS file if the following statements are not there:
  321.  
  322.                 BASEDEV=IBMPSCSI.ADD
  323.  
  324.        5. Shutdown and then restart the system to activate this driver
  325.           which provides standard OS/2 SCSI adapter support.
