  1. Driver Installation Instructions (Windows 3.1)
  2. ----------------------------------------------

  4. These instructions assume Windows** is already installed and this is the
  5. first time you are installing the driver.  If you previously installed
  6. the driver and want to change the resolution of your display, please see
  7. "Changing Your Mode of Operation" later in the file.

  9. If you have not already installed the DMQS files and VESA SVGA BIOS extension,
  10. select the first option on the main menu of this installation program to get to
  11. the VESA SVGA BIOS Extension menu.  Then follow the prompts to install the DMQS
  12. files and BIOS extension, and reboot your computer.
  13.  
  14. To install the driver:
  15.  
  16.    1.  Turn on the computer.
  17.  
  18.    2.  If you are running Windows, exit Windows.
  19.  
  20.    3.  At a DOS prompt in the Windows directory (for example \WINDOWS),
  21.        type SETUP and press Enter.  Follow the instructions on the screen.
  22.  
  23.    4.  At the panel that describes your system configuration, use the cursor-
  24.        control keys to highlight "Display"; then press Enter.  A list of
  25.        display adapters appears.
  26.  
  27.    5.  Use the cursor-control keys to highlight "Other (Requires disk provided
  28.        by a hardware manufacturer)"; then press Enter.

  30.    6.  When prompted to insert the display device driver diskette provided by
  31.        the hardware manufacturer, change the prompt area to A:\WINV31.  Insert
  32.        the Local Bus Graphics Device Drivers for DOS and Windows diskette in
  33.        drive A and press Enter.

  35.    7.  You are directed to select "IBM Enhanced Local Bus Graphics V1.00."
  36.        Press Enter to continue.

  38.    8.  If you are installing the display power-management drivers, use the
  39.        cursor-control keys to highlight "Computer"; then press Enter.  A
  40.        list appears.

  42.    9.  Highlight "MS-DOS System with APM"; then press Enter.

  44.   10.  At the Windows Setup menu, press Enter.  Follow the instructions on
  45.        the screen.

  47. NOTE:  Resolution options are available once you start Windows.  Select the
  48.        Graphics Setup icon in the Windows Control Panel to configure your
  49.        desired mode of operation.  Windows Setup should not be used for this
  50.        purpose after the initial installation.

  53. Changing Your Mode of Operation
  54. -------------------------------

  56. Once you have installed your device driver, you can change the display setup
  57. for Windows from the Windows Control panel as follows:
  58.  
  59.    1.  While running Windows, double-click on the Windows 3.1 Control Panel
  60.        icon.  Double-click on the Graphics Setup icon.  A list of all the
  61.        valid resolutions for your display type and graphics hardware will
  62.        appear.

  64.    2.  Select the desired resolution for Windows 3.1.  (WARNING:  An incorrect
  65.        display selection above can produce resolutions that your display cannot
  66.        support.)  A list of all the valid number of colors for the selected
  67.        resolution will appear.

  69.    3.  Select the desired number of colors for the Windows desktop.  (A gray
  70.        number means that your display supports the selection, but you must
  71.        first select a lower resolution.)

  73.    4.  Select the desired font size for the Windows desktop.  The default is a
  74.        small-sized font at resolutions of 800x600 and lower, and a large-sized
  75.        font at resolutions above 800x600.

  77.    5.  Click on the OK button to save any changes made with Graphics Setup,
  78.        or on the Cancel button to discard any changes.

  80. NOTE:  When changing displays, first do the above steps; then connect the
  81.        new display.  If your Windows display is out of sync, first try
  82.        deleting the file, SETUP.PRO, in your XVA (DMQS) directory.  If you
  83.        still have a problem, run Windows SETUP.EXE and select "IBM Enhanced
  84.        Local Bus Graphics V1.00"; then follow the above steps to configure
  85.        your display.
