Packed files
------------
Most files on this CD have the enlargement ZIP.
What are the characteristic of .ZIP and why make we use of?
-----------------------------------------------------------
With help of special compress programs it is possible to transfer
programs without data loss in a format, which need less place.
This works also with programs, which have subdirectories and
several supplementary data-files like drivers, source-code etc.
Most known and reflex program is the PKZIP V2.04 from USA.
The advantages of compress files are:
-------------------------------------
1. There are smaller files, which save harddisk place.
2. The same file, now smaller, need less time for downloading.
3. Because the compress file can contain several files (also
lists) it is simple to download or copy one program
instead of a lot.
Unpacking of .ZIP-Files
--------------------------
The .ZIP-File must be unpacked before you can use it. The program PKUNZIP.EXE
makes the job. (the complete Packer is in file PKZ204G.EXE. Simply start it
in subdirectory and it packes out himself).
(Start of PKUNZIP.EXE without parameter gives you the command)
Input: PKUNZIP filename
Example: PKUNZIP DAAG23
The file will be unpacked in the same directory where you actually stay.
If you like to unpack in another directory please add this directory:
e.g. PKUNZIP DAAG23 c:\util
It is not necessary to type the extension of ".ZIP" because PKUNZIP
automatically uses this extension.
Some ZIP-Files are packed with subdirectories and disk-labels.
These files should be unpacked with additional parameters. Often it is
written in the file description, but you can generally use the parameters
for unpacking with sub-dirs and labels.
PKUNZIP -d -$ zipfile a:
Now there subdirs and labels will be automatically created (if existing)
What to do, if you get the message "warning don't know how to handle this file"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You are using an older version of PKUNZIP (mostly V1.10..). Please use the
new version 2.04.
PKZ204G.EXE
Spezialformats
--------------
Some files have other extensions like .EMT, 3H1, IMG etc..
These are image files and you must unpack it to diskette for installation.
You will then receive an original disk.
Please use the following programs
EMTCOPY.EXE under DOS
EMT4PM.EXE under OS/2 PM
LOADDSK.EXE DSK-Format (*.DSK)
Files with the Extension LZH are packed with LHA.EXE.
