- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
- ___________________
-
- The minimum system requirements to run the IBM
- Multimedia Studio's CD-ROM Sampler are:
-
- 256-color monitor
- 8MB RAM (16MB highly recommended)
- Hard drive (10MB of free space available)**
- Double-spin CD-ROM drive
- Microsoft Windows* version 3.1 or higher
- QuickTime for Windows (provided)**
- Microsoft Video for Windows (provided)
-
- This version of the IBM Multimedia Studio's CD-ROM Sampler has been
- developed and tested for the Aptiva 610.
-
- Please familiarize yourself with your PC hardware and Microsoft Windows
- software. This information is available in the manuals which accompanied
- your system.
-
- **Note: The Sampler can be installed on any of your hard drives, but
- QuickTime for Windows has to be installed in the hard drive that contains
- the "\Windows" directory. Also, you must install the version of QuickTime
- for Windows that is available on this product. The installer removes all
- older versions of QuickTime for Windows because they will create conflicts
- if they are not removed.
-
-
- MULTIMEDIA TECHNOLOGY
- _____________________
-
- Multimedia technology is constantly changing and therefore requires users to
- be vigilant about the latest changes in memory usage, drivers, and operating
- systems. We advise users to maintain contact with the manufacturers of
- their products so that they may receive necessary updates in order to keep
- their systems up with the current technology.
-
-
-
- INSTALLATION
- ____________
-
- The IBM Multimedia Studio's CD-ROM Sampler copies selected files on to
- your hard drive. QUICKTIME FOR WINDOWS 2.01 MUST BE INSTALLED PROPERLY AND
- ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS DELETED. QuickTime for Windows installer will
- perform this operation for you.
-
- This installation requires approximately 2MB of free space on your
- target hard drive.
-
- Step 1 Insert the IBM Multimedia Studio's CD-ROM Sampler in the
- CD-ROM drive.
- Step 2 Select "Run" in the "File" menu of the Program Manager.
- Step 3 Select "Browse" and then select the drive that your copy of
- the IBM Multimedia Studio's CD-ROM Sampler is located.
- Normally this drive is labeled "D" or "E".
- Step 4 Select "SETUP.EXE" and then select "OK".
- Step 5 From the "Run" dialog box, choose "OK".
- Step 6 Follow the directions supplied by the installer program.
- This installer will load QuickTime for Windows, copy
- selected files into a directory labeled "\IBMMSHD" and
- create a program groups and icons for both QuickTime for
- Windows and the IBM Multimedia Studio's CD-ROM Sampler.
- Step 7 Restart Windows.
- Step 8 Double-click on the "IBM CD SAMPLER" icon to begin your
- journey.
-
- *** IMPORTANT ***
- INSTALL THE NEW VERSION OF QUICKTIME AND ALLOW THE INSTALLER TO DELETE
- OLDER VERSIONS, OTHERWISE, QUICKTIME WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY. IF YOU BEGIN
- HAVING VIDEO PROBLEMS AFTER INSTALLATION, EXIT WINDOWS, RESTART WINDOWS
- AND THEN RESTART THE APPLICATION.
-
- Do not run other applications while running IBM Multimedia Studio's CD-ROM
- Sampler. The IBM Multimedia Studio's CD-ROM Sampler requires at least
- 8MB of real memory, 16MB is recommended, and at least a 2MB swap file.
- A larger swap file will improve the IBM Multimedia Studio's CD-ROM Sampler
- performance.
-
-
-
- SPECIAL SYSTEM CONSIDERATIONS
- _____________________________
-
- Systems using 4MB of RAM may cause the application to run slowly, video and
- audio files to perform erratically and the possibility of system failures.
- We HIGHLY recommend that you have at least 8MB or more of RAM.
-
- Systems using the Aria and other non-100% Sound Blaster compatible
- sound cards will play some audio pieces with a slight "buzzing" sound.
-
- When using a Packard-Bell PC please review the README file that was
- installed with QuickTime by clicking the icon included in the program group.
-
- Systems using the Cirrus Logic CL-GD5426-80QC-A video chipset in combination
- with the CL-GD5426/28 v1.43 Windows driver may experience video problems.
- Please replace the video driver with the generic Windows SVGA 640X480 256
- color driver or the Cirrus Logic 542X MultiRes ver. 1.02 driver.
-
- INDIVIDUAL DEMONSTRATION TIPS
- _____________________________
-
- This section describes problems that can occur for each demo we are
- presenting in the IBM Multimedia Studio's CD-ROM Sampler.
-
- The Sampler:
-
- This product was created to run at 640x480 at 256 colors. Running at
- a higher resolution will have mixed, unexpected and unsupported results.
-
- Clark Howard's Guide to Consumer Survival:
-
- When running in Windows 95, users may experience that Clark
- Howard's Guide to Consumer Survival will not maximize to full
- screen. Please change the setting to the Windows 95 task bar.
- Step 1. Select START on the task bar
- Step 2. Select SETTINGS
- Step 3. Select TASKBAR
- Step 4. Either Deselect the 'Always On Top' check box,
- Or Select 'Auto hide'.
-
- Please DO NOT "minimize" this sampler. Unstable results may occur.
- In the event this sampler is minimized in Windows 95, Select the
- Ctrl and Esc keys to restore the taskbar.
-
- If you run this demo in a resolution mode higher than 640x480
- it will map out the rest of the screen coverage and be very
- difficult for you to work with. Please use the suggested
- resolution mode of 640x480x256colors.
-
- If the video fails to run, please check to see that the Video
- For Windows runtime version is loaded correctly and Windows has
- been restarted.
-
- Please remember to quit any applications (Microsoft Write,
- Card File, etc.) that you may open during use of this demonstration.
- Although it will not cause any immediate problems more memory will
- be taken by these applications and therefore cause the Sampler to
- run less smoothly.
-
- The Book of Shadowboxes:
-
- Be aware of the sound level being higher on this product due to
- some unexpected difficulties dealing with SoundBlaster Drivers.
- You may wish to turn the volume down and then readjust as the
- demo begins.
-
- The Playboy Interview: Three Decades of Interviews:
-
- This is a self-running demonstration and can be interupted by any
- screen saver including the one that comes with Windows. The typical
- advice for all multimedia products is to always switch all screen
- savers off.
-
- To quit this particular demonstration, please hit the "ESC" button
- on your keyboard.
-
-
- F18: No Fly Zone:
-
- See the README file for this application located on the CD-ROM in
- the IBMMS/F18NFZ directory.
-
- Quatra Command:
-
- See the README file for this application located on the CD-ROM in
- the IBMMS/QUATRA directory.
-
-
- Black Rein:
-
- See the README file for this application located on the CD-ROM in
- the IBMMS/blkrein directory.
-
- TROUBLESHOOTING

-
- Check to see that Video for Windows has been installed correctly and that
- Windows has been restarted.
-
- Consult the video card's manufacturer to see if new ROM's or drivers are
- available to make your card compatible with QuickTime 2.0.
-
- Problem # 2: Videos play, but there is no sound.
- consult the card's manufacturer to see if new ROM's or drivers are available
- to make your card compatible with QuickTime.
-

-
-
- Problem # 3: The IBM Multimedia Studio's CD-ROM Sampler crashes.
