  6. This document contains information on running the setup program and 
  7. troubleshooting the Sampler CD on the PC/Windows platform.

  10. RUNNING SETUP.EXE

  13. To set up the proper program icon and program group for Windows 3.1, in 
  14. the File Manager choose "run" from the "File" menu. Select the "browse"
  15. button when it apears in the following window. Locate the "setup.exe" 
  16. file located on your "d:" (or whatever drive letter your CD-ROM drive 
  17. is mapped to). Select "ok." The setup program will create a "Headbone"
  18. program group and within that group, an icon named "Headbone CDROM 
  19. Sampler." This program does not install any files onto your hard disk;
  20. instead, it creates a program group called "Headbone," if it does not 
  21. already exist, and adds one program icon.  Although this icon will 
  22. always be visible in Windows, you will only be able to run the Sampler
  23. CD when the CD is in your CD-ROM drive. If you do not wish to run 
  24. "setup.exe" and create the program group and icon, you can run the 
  25. Sampler executable directly from the File Manager. To do so, open the 
  26. Windows File Manager. Open up a window for the drive letter where your
  27. CD-ROM drive is located. Find the file called "Sampler.exe" located at
  28. the root of the drive. Run this file by double clicking it or selecting
  29. "run" from the File menu.

  32. Windows 95 Auto Play

  35. The Windows 95 AutoPlay feature will start the Headbone Sampler program
  36. automatically when the CD is inserted into the drive; however, this may
  37. take a while.  Sometimes a very long while.  While it's loading up it 
  38. will appear as if nothing is happening except that your CD drive access
  39. light will blink intermittantly.  All you can do is go and get a cup of
  40. coffee (or glass of milk, as appropriate) and wait for the program to
  41. begin. If you attempt to run other programs or access the desktop while
  42. AutoPlay is starting up, the Sampler program may be hidden by windows
  43. on your desktop or may appear in the wrong colors. To suppress 
  44. AutoPlay, hold down the SHIFT key when inserting the CD.

  47. TROUBLESHOOTING WINDOWS

  50. Most problems are related to device drivers for video boards, sound
  51. boards, or CD-ROM drives.  Problems caused by incompatible device
  52. drivers may include General Protection Fault error messages, slow or 
  53. erratic performance, sound distortion or lack of sound.  If you
  54. experience these or any other technical difficulties, check to make
  55. sure that you are using the latest driver for your video or sound
  56. adapter. Contact the manufacturer of your computer, video adapter
  57. or sound adapter for assistance in determining if you have the latest
  58. version of the driver. The Headbone Sampler CD should be run in 640x480
  59. mode with 256 colors. Turn off all other programs, including screen
  60. savers, virus detection software, etc., before running the sampler.
