OPERATIONS SECURITY FUNDAMENTALS
FOR
MANAGERS AND SUPERVISORS
OP-301
INTRODUCTION
This course is designed to provide managers and
supervisors with a basic knowledge of OPSEC and its
applications. The course focuses on the history of OPSEC
and the OPSEC process as described in NSDD-298. Three
scenarios give the student an opportunity to use OPSEC in an
administrative, drug enforcement and acquisition
environments.
TAKING THE COURSE
The course information is sequenced for the novice
using the building block method of presentation. For those
who feel comfortable with OPSEC background, it offers the
flexibility to go directly to the scenarios.
STUDENT LOGON
This routine is required for course registration and
record keeping. You will need a DOS formatted diskette (5
¼" or 3½") in drive "A" during the logon and throughout the
course. Initially you will be asked to complete the
following:
1. SSN
2. Last name, first name, middle initial
3. Date
4. Status (military or civilian)
5. Rank/Grade
6. Organization (unclassified only)
7. Organizational address
Upon reentering the course only your SSN and the date
will be checked. This verifies that your student diskette is
in the machine, and that the date is set correctly in the
computer.
MENUS AND FUNCTION BAR
The course has one main menu for the four sections.
Within each section are submenus, which allow you greater
control of the courseware. Some lessons have questions
incorporated to allow you the opportunity to test your
retention of information.
At the bottom of the screen is a gray function bar. It
will display the functions that are currently available. You
may click on the icon or type the highlighted letter. These
functions are as follows:
Enter (or Return)=FORWARD takes you forward to the next
screen.
F1=QUIT allows you the option to exit the course at
that point.
F6=BACK will take you back one screen or to the start
of a sequence of information.
F9=MENU will take you back through menu screens one
menu level at a time.
F8=HELP provides additional information in the
Scenarios Section. Also used to exit the help menu and
return you to the main course.
The ICON BAR corresponds to the four course section icons in
the main menu. Highlighted section indicates the section
currently being worked on. You cannot change section via
this icon.
NOTE: The mouse is not active within the help menu.
LESSON BOOKMARK
You can exit the course at any time using the main menu
or the F1 function on the screen function on the screen
function bar. If you decide to exit the course, the
automatic BOOKMARK function will mark your record so that
upon return you can go to a re-entry point close to the last
screen accessed.
END OF COURSE TEST
There is no final exam in this course. Your ability to
progress through any of the three scenarios is the only
assessment.
It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that the scenario you choose
to complete be completed at one setting.
PROGRAM EVALUATION ASSESSMENT KEY (PEAK)
After completing the scenario, you will be given the
opportunity to complete the PEAK form, a series of questions
designed to provide data to evaluate the effectiveness of
the course. You must complete the PEAK in order for the
course final results to be posted to your student disk, and
student record.
Each question allows for your personal response or
feedback. Follow the screen directions when providing any
response. The feedback uses an end-of-line wrap around
technique. Pressing ENTER or RETURN will end that question
and proceed to the next question. At the end of the
questions more screens are available for additional
comments. We ask you to be specific in your feedback on any
ideas you would like incorporated into the course. Please
add you phone number at this time if you wish to be
contacted.
