  13.                                HOW DO BBSs WORK?

  16.      The following bulletins will attempt to explain how your local BBS gets a 
  17. message from point A to point B.  I will attempt to cover both messages, as 
  18. well as bulletins, and the different ways that the BBSs forward mail. After 
  19. reading these bulletins, you will hopefully have a better understanding of 
  20. what happens to that message after it disappears into the system.

  22.      First of all, the examples I will show are from the WA7MBL forward file 
  23. format.  Your bbs may use a different method of handling these processes, but 
  24. the general idea will be true for all BBSs.

  26.      The best way to picture the forwarding system is to think of it as a kind 
  27. of transportation network.  In this network, you have small routes (vhf), and 
  28. you also have the airline form (gateways and wormholes).  This system does 
  29. have its "road closed" areas, as well as one-way streets, and even some loops.
