- HOW DO BBSs WORK?
- by Kevin Minor N8EGA
-
- The following bulletins will attempt to explain how your local BBS gets a
- message from point A to point B. I will attempt to cover both messages, as
- well as bulletins, and the different ways that the BBSs forward mail. After
- reading these bulletins, you will hopefully have a better understanding of
- what happens to that message after it disappears into the system.
-
- First of all, the examples I will show are from the WA7MBL forward file
- format. Your bbs may use a different method of handling these processes, but
- the general idea will be true for all BBSs.
-
- The best way to picture the forwarding system is to think of it as a kind
- of transportation network. In this network, you have small routes (vhf), and
- you also have the airline form (gateways and wormholes). This system does
- have its "road closed" areas, as well as one-way streets, and even some loops.
-
- In the next bulletin, you will learn the general method of forwarding
- data. Until then,
-
- 73,
