If for any reason your Internet Connection Utility doesn't work
properly, or has stopped working we suggest that you follow the
methods listed below for re-installation.
We recommend that you restart your system if you are planning
to re-install the Golf program after un-installing it.
Failing to restart your system prior to this exercise may cause
an installation error message to appear. If you do get this
message you can un-install the portion of the program that
has just been installed, restart your system, then begin the
re-installation exercise again.
First you must un-install the Golf program by clicking on the
un-install icon in the Canadian Golf program group. This will
remove all files related to the initial installation of the
program. You can now re-install the Golf program by following
the instructions above pertaining to 'CD-ROM Installation'.
Warning: The un-install operation will remove all Golf
program files. Therefore, it is especially important that you
backup the GOLFCD.LDB and GOLFCD.MDB (Golf Course, Player and
Score information) files in the c:\canglf98\scorcard directory
before attempting any un-install or re-install. Backing up
these files will allow you to re-instate all your course
records and game scores once you have completed a
re-installation.
(Please note the un-install routine will not remove MS
Explorer 4.0 once installed. For procedures on how
to uninstall programs, consult your Windows 95
documentation)
When you run the Golf Program again, the first time you
click on the spinning globe you will then be prompted to
install/re-install the Internet Connection Utility.
If after re-installing the internet utility, you are still
experiencing problems connecting from the Golf CD to the
internet, the Internet Explorer program may need re-
installation. To manually re-install this program you
must click on 'inst32.exe' in the root directory of the CD.
4) HELP TOUR GUIDE
At any time while running the Golf program you can
click on the spinning `H' at most main menus to find
out how to get the most out of this CD in terms of
what to look for and how to get there.
5) TRIVIA GAME
To play the game, simply select one of the four possible answers
provided for each question. If you answer correctly, get a
hole-in-one. If your answer is incorrect, choose another until
the right answer is chosen. Each attempt at an answer counts
as a stroke against your final score. Water shots or lost balls
count as a penalty stroke. All other rules shall comply with
those of the RCGA & CLGA.
At any time during the game, you can click on the leaderboard
button just above your scorecard to see how your score compares
to the top ten scores. You can also look at your individual
statistics (bogeys, birdies, etc...) if you click on the
statistics button. Your scorecard will keep a running total
of your shots on every hole.
Resetting the leaderboard
To reset the leaderboard you will have to delete the files
contained in the `DATA' directory created on your `C' drive.
The next time you play Trivia, a new leaderboard will be
created.

If you need to re-install the Golf program and Score Manager
at any time we recommend that you make a backup copy of the
Score Manager record files (Golf Course, Player and Score
information). Thesefiles are 'golfcd.ldb & golfce.mdb' and
are located in thescorecard directory on your hard drive.
7) GENERAL INFORMATION
Backing Up Files
Please be advised that as you enter golf course information in
the Scorecard section of this program the records will be
written to the hard disk. These records are quite small in
terms of file size and will take up very little room on the
disk. Please take care not to erase any of these records, as
you will have to re-enter all the information that is lost.
It is considered good computing to back up these files on a
regular basis for safe-keeping. These files are ' golfcd.ldb '
and ' golfcd.mdb ' and are located at:
c:\canglf98\scorcard (on your hard drive). If any of these
files are erased or become corrupt, you will have to run
setup.exe again.
Navigation
You can navigate to any part of this program based on your
interests. When your cursor pointer becomes a "hand pointer" you
can then click on that spot to navigate to the area of your
choice. You will find
the navigation areas anywhere on the screen that changes your
cursor pointer into the hand. To view our sponsors products
and services you can click on the company logos throughout this
presentation. A `BACK' button will take you back sequentially
through the presentation. You will also find that when you move
your mouse cursor over certainparts of the screen that text
and or images will appear. These areasare called `hot-spots'.
Not every screen in this program has `hot-spots' but we en-
courage you to move the cursor around the screens in the
program to access all that are available to you.
Performance
To obtain optimum performance of this CD it is recommended
to close all Windows programs that may be open prior to
running the Golf program. It is also recommended to close
all programs that may be running in the background ( anti-
virus, productivity tools, backup utilities etc.) For
optimum viewing of the graphical, video, and animation
elements in this program we recommend you set your monitor
to a display setting of 800x600 and a resolution higher that
256 colours. For information on how to accomplish this, con-
sult your Windows manual.
Prob-lems Playing Video
If your system encounters problems when accessing the
video files in this presentation, you most likely do
not have the necessary video drivers required to play
video files(.AVI). Included on the CD is a directory
called VFW, which contains the files your system
requires to play these video files. Please read the
contents of the readme.txt file in the VFW directory prior
to installing the video files.
Internet and General Use
If you are are planning to connect to
the Internet from the Golf CD, please be advised that
the Internet Connection Utility will require MS
Internet Explorer 4.0 or better. If you do not have
this version the system will install it on your hard
drive for you. If you do have this version then only
the Internet Connection Utility will be installed.
NOTE: INSTALLATION OF MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER WILL TAKE
10 TO 15 MINUTES AND REQUIRES UP TO 60 Mb OF HARD DISK SPACE.
If you initially installed the Internet support utility and at
some future date you uninstall the Internet Explorer (IE) pro-
gram, you must also delete the Internet Support utility.
Failing to do so could cause the Golf program to become un-
stable if you click on any of the Internet links. If you need
to re-install the Golf program and Score Manager at any time,
your Score Manager records (Golf Course, Player and Score in-
formation) should not be over-written. We recommend that you
do not delete the ScoreManager directory or files if you are
attempting a re-install.
If you do delete any of these files, you will also be required
to delete a
file in the Windows directory (c:\windows\vicsc.ini). Fail-
ing to delete this file will cause you to get a database warn-
ing message when trying to run the Score Manager after the re-
installation.
Technical Support
We have thoroughly tested this product under various conditions,
we realize that some system configurations may cause need for
technical assistance.
We will provide technical support for the Golf Program, and the
Score Manager. Technical assistance required for Internet
support in termsof connectivity problems should be directed
to your Internet ServiceProvider.
NOTE: All of the suggestions in this readme file concerning
running/trouble-shooting this program are just that - sugges-
tions. This presentation has been designed to run on most
PC based systems. We suggest you check the minimum system
requirements necessary to run this program (as mentioned
above and also found on the back of the CD case). If you
are experiencing extreme performance prob-lems it may be
that your system does not meet the minimum re-quirements.
You should contact the manufacturer or the place of business
where the system was purchased to arrange necessary adjust-
ments to your system.
After viewing this program if you have any suggestion for our
next issue email us at vic@sympatico.ca or mail us at
