TROUBLESHOOTING / FAILURES / INFOS ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── *** Ok, some hints: *** - If you have some problems with running the PARTY'93 REPORT try running your PARTY'93 REPORT with activated smartdrive cache (about 2 MB). - if your computer has problems with speed, you can decrease the sampling rate by setting the environment variable MPDEVICE (see below). - you can disable the sound completely by starting the report with "PARTY93 /q" (This may help if your computer goes tits up when you try to run the report.) (Actually any extra parameter will switch off the sound.) *** How to set MPDEVICE *** If the automatic soundcard detection fails, you may set the environment variable MPDEVICE before starting PARTY93: SET MPDEVICE= <type>, <port>, <int>, <dma>, <mixing speed or ramsize> type: The type of the soundcard. 0: Gravis Ultrasound 1: SoundBlaster 2: SoundBlasterPRO port: The base port of the soundcard in hex. Refer to your manual for this number. int: Interrupt channel used. Normally 7, sometimes 5. Refer to manual. dma: DMA channel used. Normally 1 or 3. Refer to manual. mixing speed or ramsize: if type=0: The size of GUS ram in kb. Possible settings: 0..1024 else: The sampling frequency of module output in Hz. Normally set to 22050 Hz. Try lower frequencies to reduce processing expenditure needed. Possible settings: 4000...22050 example: SET MPDEVICE= 2,220,7,1,22050 sets a SBPRO at port 220h, interrupt channel 7, DMA channel 1 and mixing speed 22050 Hz SET MPDEVICE= 0,220,5,1,256 sets a GUS at port 220h, interrupt channel 5, DMA channel 1 and 256k RAM. *** Description of PARTY93 Errors *** - General Errors: ------------------ "Sorry, could not find VGA adapter": Search for VGA failed. (Function 1Ah / Int 10h returned <7) "Sorry, video adapter type unknown. Continue anyway (y/N)?": Search for VGA failed. (Function 1Ah / Int 10h returned >8) "Processor already in Protected Mode! (remove any EMM386 etc.)!": Explains itself. Remove EMS drivers from CONFIG.SYS and reboot. Processor should be in Real Mode when PARTY93 is started! "Couldn't find XMS driver (use HIMEM.SYS)!": Insert line "DEVICE=C:\dos\himem.sys" or something similar in your CONFIG.SYS and reboot. "Not enough XMS memory! (600 kB recommended)": PARTY93 needs at least 600k free XMS. If you have that much installed, remove programs that may have allocated XMS. "Memory control block destroyed while reserving DOS memory!": Function 48h / int 21h returned 7 Try again after reboot. (This one shouldn't occur anyway) "Not enough DOS memory!": Function 48h / int 21h returned 8 Remove memory resident programs to get more DOS memory. You can use the dos command "mem /c" to list the memory distribution. "Loader init error! Error code:": The data file loader could not be initialized. Perhaps PARTY93.EXE is corrupt or you have renamed it. Error code 1: File format unknown; file may be corrupted Error code 2: Bad Comment; file may be corrupted Error code 3: No Mem left; (Too many files) file may be corrupted Error code 4: File not found; You have renamed PARTY93.EXE to some- thing else. Never do this, you will completely confuse my loader! (or file corrupted) "Creepy myterious error! Error Code: ": If this one occurs, something weird is going on. Get another copy of PARTY93.EXE and try again. (Or DOS returned another error code than 7 or 8.) "ERROR while removing system. Please reboot as soon as possible.": Something went wrong when the Party Report tried to unload drivers, free memory or somesuch. The Error code may contain what DOS returned after trying to free mem. - Specific MPI Modplayer Errors: --------------------------------- "MPI Error: Not enough memory!": See above: Not enogh DOS memory /not enough XMS memory "File corrupt! Did not find MOD": Obviously the file is corrupt. Get another copy of PARTY93.EXE and try again. "Internal error 3", "Internal error 4", "Internal GUS error 6", "internal SB error 7", "Internal SBPro error 8": Internal Errors of MPI. (Something is going wrong, but we can't do anything about it. Perhaps the file is corrupted or your computer or soundcard doesn't work correctly) "Couldn't find Soundcard": Either you don't have a soundcard installed (GUS, SB, SBPro are supported), or the initialization failed. In that case, try setting the environment variable MPDEVICE to the correct settings as described above. "MPI was installed before": MPI was already active in your system when you started PARTY93. You should not play modules in background and start the Party Report! "Couldn't install MUX handler": Don't ask me. (Try to run it without sound.) "Couldn't install MPI driver": General MPI install error. - Specific Loader Errors: -------------------------- "Loader Error: drivers not inited!": Internal error. Seems I have not inited the loader when using it. (But, as I will not release it until it works, this one will only occur when the file is corrupted or parts of your Mem are deleted.)
