- I have modified NCSA Telnet 2.2 for the Macintosh so that it supports SLIP
- (serial line IP), uses BOOTP to dynamically discover its IP address when
- using SLIP and to support different ports via a service parameter in the
- open connection dialog. I can provide binaries to people who are
- interested.

-
- In using both telnet and ftp on a PS/2 with the UB card, we loose the
- connection frequently. It appears to be because these programs are not
- handling trailing headers correctly. They are being generated on a uVAX
- running Ultrix. Is this a bug in the ncsa software or just a design
- limitation?

-
- Several people have pointed out this problem. I am preparing a new
- version of tn3270 which will use the latest version of the NCSA TCP/IP
- code and the new format for "config.tel".
-
- > Are you (or is somebody) going to integrate the tn3270 stuff with the

-
- As far as I know, no one is planning to integrate Telnet and tn3270.
- The programs have quite different designs, so that this would be
- difficult to do. Adding multiple sessions to tn3270 is feasible,
- and I plan to do that eventually. However, features with greater demand,
- such as keyboard remapping, will be added first.
-
- I've received several inquiries about tn3270 for PCs which would
- also support eight colors and graphics. Brown has no plans to produce
- a version of tn3270 for PCs. However, we will be releasing the
- Macintosh source code soon, and would be pleased to see that used as
- the starting point for a PC version. Graphics on the PC will be much
- more difficult due to the variety of display adapters and hardware,
- and lack of a standard for accessing the screen as a bitmap.

-
- I am a user of version 2.2 of NCSA Telnet on a Macintosh II. When I use
- 'set macros' to enter a macro that consists of a single word followed
- by <control>m (to represent <return>), I notice that several lines of garbage
- get saved to represent the return. Is this normal?

- Subject: Problem with config.tel file
-
- Hello. I'm running with NCSA Telnet version 2.2. Whenever I start it, I get
- a dialog box telling me:
-
- Session: Cannot find or open
- configuration file
-
- Config file: error in line 1
-
- After I get this I click on the dialog box whereupon NCSA Telnet tells me:
-
- NCSA Telnet couldn't open your
- config file. You may try to Find a
- File, Continue without, or QUIT
- Telnet now.
-
- I I select "Find File", and then click on my orginal "config.tel", everything
- works fine. My question then is, why am I having this problem if NCSA Telnet
- seems to accept the file on the second go 'round? By the way, I never changed
- the first line in the config.tel file anyway.

-
-
- In version 2.1, we buffered incoming terminal traffic in such a
- way that full-screen refreshes (like page-down in vi) were a little
- slower and "Suspend Network" was instantaneous. The buffering was
- set to one-line at a time.
-
- In version 2.2, we set the buffer closer to the size of the whole
- screen, so when you use "Suspend Network" (Command-S), it takes a
- full screen for the screen to stop scrolling. Editing refreshes
- are faster though.

- The shiva netmodem operates as a network extender. But certain things do
- not work very well. Printing works fine, accesses to appletalk resources
- work fine, but the presence of the KFPS seems to put a wrench in the
- works. For one thing, none of my mac resources are visible (nbp-wise) to
- the ethernet side, and I cannot access anything from the ethernet side.
- Shiva software is supposed to take care of lengthening timeouts.
-
- Could you forward that message (and perhaps this one too) to the telnet
- distribution, or perhaps just ask people who have used Shiva Netmodems to
- contact me?

-
-
- The diffs for NCSA Telnet 2.2 source code have arrived. On the
- ftp server (ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu 128.174.20.50), I have placed the diffs
- file for a few fixes that should be made in any version that is intended
- to go to users. Bugs fixed are: color on Mac II, zone= support, settings
- bug fix, preferences bug fix. I apologize for not discovering most of
- these bugs earlier, but such is the life of software.
-
-
- NOTE: Since the source code is different from that which was used to generate
- the current distributed binary, these bugs do NOT exist in the 2.2 release
- program from NCSA.
