But now a scientist in the USA has done research which, he claims, shows that man’s earliest ancestor in fact lived at the same time as the dinosaurs. <br />(<B>6</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />If</Gap> this is really true, then it means that the ancestors of chimpanzees must have originated earlier than had previously (<B>7</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />been</Gap> thought.<br />When the dinosaurs became extinct, the primates lived on and spread across the planet. They went first from the southern tropics and then moved northwards, evolving into different species, (<B>8</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />such</Gap> as chimpanzees, as they went.
