People (<B>2</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />have</Gap> always used some kind of token to represent a value, although (<B>3</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />not</Gap> in the form of the coins or notes we use today.<br />Originally, people conducted their business (<B>4)</B> <Gap><Score num="1" />by</Gap> exchanging goods that were worth more or <br />(<B>5</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />less</Gap> the same as each (<B>6</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />other</Gap>. But this was not always practical, as (<B>7</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />it</Gap> was difficult to decide whether the value of the goods was really identical or not. So sometimes other things <br />(<B>8</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />were</Gap> added to the exchange to make up the full value, including salt, cows and precious stones.<br />The first actual coins were used in what is now eastern Turkey, but it was not (<B>9</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />until</Gap> centuries later that the formal banknote was developed. Now, however, cash is starting to disappear again from everyday life. More transactions (<B>10</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />take</Gap> place using credit cards, or electronic transfers in (<B>11</B>) <Gap><Score num="1" />which</Gap> nothing physical changes hands.
