- 9.3 OPEN TABLET
-
-
- The OPEN TABLET command is used to initialise a digitising tablet and an
- associated tablet menu if required.
-
- When the tablet is initialised, you specify whether you want the whole of
- the tablet area to be made available for digitising, or if regions of the
- tablet will become tablet menu areas with a smaller digitising area left in
- the centre of the tablet.
-
- Digitising tablets are useful for digitising or copying existing drawings.
- The greater resolution of a tablet allows an accurate copy of a drawing to
- be made by digitising points on the drawing with the pen or puck.
-
- When a digitising tablet is running, all locations entered are only inter-
- preted by IDENTS to be locations for what ever command is active. The pen or
- puck on a digitising tablet cannot be used to select options from screen
- menus or any gadgets on the screen. However, a digitising tablet does not
- disable the mouse, so command and command options selection can still be
- done from screen menus by using the mouse.
-
- Selection of commands from screen menus or automenus can be totally dis-
- abled if the digitising tablet is activated with a tablet menu. This allows
- you to have many more predefined commands available than would fit on a
- screen menu. Also as key areas on a tablet menu may contain any command
- string, complex command sequences can be selected with one action as
- opposed to several actions when automenus are used.
-
-
- MODIFIERS
-
- CHERRY Used to select the Cherry tablet. If the TABLETMENU
- modifier is not used, the whole of the tablet can be used
- as a digitising area. The available area is 384 by 240
- millimetres with a resolution of .1 of a millimetre.
-
- .PEN This modifier is used to select the input device for the
- tablet. One of two keywords can be entered:
-
- STYLUS To select the stylus.
- PUCK To select the puck.
-
- The default device selected is the puck.
-
- When the stylus is selected, pressing the stylus has the
- same effect as pressing the left button on the mouse.
- With the puck in operation, the top two buttons coloured
- green and red have the same effect as the two buttons on
- the mouse. The bottom two buttons coloured yellow and
- blue have the same effect as typing a colon (yellow) and
- a return (blue).
-
- .TABLETMENU Specifies that areas of the tablet will be used as a
- tablet menu. The modifier should be followed by the name
- of a tablet menu compiled with the COMPTAB command. ( See
- documentation for COMPTAB ).
-
- The tablet area should be configured to suit the tablet
- menu required using the modifiers described below. The
- default tablet menu configuration is a key size of 16
- millimetres with menu strips along the left and right
- sides of the tablet each 4 keys wide plus a menu strip
- along the top of the tablet 8 keys wide. This gives a
- total of 272 keys.
-
- ..KEYSIZE The menu key square size in millimetres.
-
- ..LEFT The number of keys defining the left border of the menu
- area.
-
- ..RIGHT The number of keys defining the right border of the menu
- area.
-
- ..TOP The number of keys defining the top border of the menu
- area.
-
- If the tablet area is configured using the LEFT, RIGHT
- and TOP modifiers, a value of zero should be entered to
- disable a border if this is required.
-
- SUMMAGRAPHICS Used to select a SummaGraphics tablet. The modifier is
- followed by one of three keywords used to identify the
- model of SummaGraphics tablet to be used:
-
- MM1812 Select the MM1812 tablet. This has an
- available area of 457 by 304 millimetres.
-
- MM1201 Select the MM1201 tablet. This has an
- available area of 297 by 297 millimetres.
-
- MM961 Select the MM961 tablet. This has an
- available area of 152 by 228 millimetres.
-
- If the pen or puck is used for any of the MM tablets,
- buttons 1 and 2 have the same effect as the left and right
- buttons on the mouse. If the puck is used, button 3 has the
- same effect as typing a colon, and button 4 has the same
- effect as typing return.
-
- If the TABLETMENU modifier is not used, the whole of the
- tablet can be used as a digitising area. The available area
- is dependent on the tablet model with a resolution of .1 of
- a millimetre.
-
- .TABLETMENU Specifies that areas of the tablet will be used as a
- tablet menu. The modifier should be followed by the name
- of a tablet menu compiled with the COMPTAB command. ( See
- documentation for COMPTAB ).
-
- The tablet area should be configured to suit the tablet
- menu required using the modifiers described below.
-
- ..KEYSIZE The menu key square size in millimetres.
-
- ..LEFT The number of keys defining the left border of the menu
- area.
-
- ..RIGHT The number of keys defining the right border of the menu
- area.
-
- ..TOP The number of keys defining the top border of the menu
- area.
-
- If the tablet area is configured using the LEFT, RIGHT
- and TOP modifiers, a value of zero should be entered to
- disable a border if this is required.
