Executive Overview
Welcome to Personal Best 1.1. By purchasing this software you have made a wise
investment in yourself. We at Protronics truly believe in the unlimited power

In this world of high-pressure, time-driven, productivity-centered activities,

this fundamental need, we have created Personal Best 1.1.
This unique application provides daily 'food for thought' to motivate you with
over 7500 jokes, quotes, wisdom, words, ideas, and insights. It keeps a diary,
a to-do list, a contact list, a goals list, a schedule, and reminds you of
upcoming birthdays and important dates. You can quickly and easily replace
any module with your existing software programs and time management system.
The time management features are designed for people, not superhumans and are
kept simple. The variety of quotes and quips is both extensive and fascinating.

morning. The interface is user friendly and can simplify your day by helping
you get organized and notifying you of important dates.
Personal Best can help you improve your productivity, creativity, energy,

makes learning both easy and fun and is an invaluable educational resource.
The intuitive interface integrates several PC applications together, saves
money by reducing learning time, allows tremendous user flexibility, offers
data security and multiuser support, supports customized add-on apps, relieves
stress and fatigue, and boosts your motivation to work with computers.

useful to writers and speakers. A powerful search engine provides easy access
to the ideas you need for the success of your individual interests. Others who

n seconds), AutoRemind (Important dates, birthdays, and events), QuickPrint

Personal Best includes four add-on programs that can be run anywhere in Windows
and don't need WINBEST.EXE. They are PIM.EXE, GAMES.EXE, PRNTSHOP.EXE, and
DOSBEST.EXE. Please add these programs to your main menu if you like them.
The PIM
One of Personal Best's hottest features is the Personal Information Manager
(PIM) or, as we call it, the Life Planner. To access the PIM you may click
on the Eye icon, press F8, or choose Planner from the menu. The PIM is
divided into eight main categories to help you attain balance in your life.
The categories are Business, Emotional, Family, Financial, Info, Mental,
Physical, and Personal. Each group is organized into subcategories that are
either standard or custom. The standard subcategories (the same in each area)
are Everyday (Goals), Vital, Short Term, Mid Term, Long Term, Ultimate,
Achievements, Bright Ideas, Edge on Life, Misc, Projects, Rules, Thoughts,
To Change, & Wisdom. Most are self-explanatory. For those that aren't, you'll
have to use your imagination or create your own. The custom subcategories
differ in each area of the Life Planner as appropriate. Try it out!
Add your personal information, ideas, dreams, and thoughts to each area.
Create a CLIENT PIM group (CLIENTS.PIM) to track and organize your clients.
To add a new PIM file or subcategory, click on an empty button. To quickly go
to the item you want, you can press the first letter of that topic. <PgUp>
and <PgDn> flip between subcategories and life areas. Press <Enter> or click
on an item to select it. Each topic you create should have a unique name.
You can change any of the subcategories by selecting Overview while editing
a subcategory or by using your editor with the *.PIM files. If you directly
edit a PIM file, end each subcategory with a colon : and use a tab in front
of each line of text of your personal data. This is not recommended however.
To automatically archive a line of data, put a plus sign + in front of each
line in the Editor that you want to archive. Turn AutoArchive on in Setup.
The Games
Choose Help from the main menu to access games, jokes, and self-help articles.
Several quick games come with Personal Best: a mastermind clone, a simon clone,
and a number & word puzzle. These are good for a quick stress break. Have fun!
To play MindBlower you must guess a 9-digit code similar to Mastermind. Click
on Hint to set the game to an easier level. Turn Repeat On to make it harder.
The Screensaver
The Screensaver will blank your Windows screen after a certain about of time,
(perfect for reminding you to take a break), or at your request. You can choose
to see affirmations, a clock, a timer, or a custom message. Be sure turn your
Windows Screensaver Off (Control Panel-Desktop) if you turn the Personal Best
Screensaver=On in Setup. The password defaults to your Security code in Setup.
The Diary
Keeping a daily diary is the perfect place to write down your thoughts, record
your dreams, and get to know yourself. Someday, when you write your memoirs,
this diary will help you recreate the memories and experiences as you grow
through life. Keeping it safe on computer will make it simple to store,
retrieve, find, and print. You can even keep a copy of the file on disk
in a safe deposit box or buried in a time capsule. It only takes 5 minutes
a day to put something down. Isn't that worth a little piece of immortality.
P.S. In the next version of Personal Best, you can attach voice recordings.
Multiusers
Users can be added by selecting File-New. Type in your first name & a directory
will be created with your organizer files. To change users, choose File-Open.
The default user can be changed under Setup. Remember to back up your data.
To run the PIM with multiuser files from a Windows app besides Personal Best,
copy PIM.EXE to the directory with your *.PIM files and launch it from there.
The PrintShop
You can easily create cards, envelopes, labels, posters, or poems & paste them
into your word processor. Click View to see your work and click again to get
back your tools. Position objects by clicking and dragging. Envelope addresses
come from the CARDFILE and ADDRESS.TXT contains your return address. Use a ~
for a new line. Use a smaller font or click on Paste if your Poem doesn't fit
on the screen. To send a fax, change the default printer in the Control Panel.
Edit ADDRESS.TXT and put your return address on the first line.
Custom Add Ons
Personal Best is the perfect place to keep lists. CDs, movies, ideas, books,
restaurants, fun things, and educational lists that can be selected once a day
to make the information overload a little more bearable. To create your own
list, add the name of a Text file to Custom1= in BEST.INI or Setup. Create
the list you want to see once a day. Only one line in the file will be shown
each day when you press 1 in WINBEST or after exiting DOSBEST. You can have up
to twenty custom files. You don't need 365 lines, just add on as you go.
AutoReminders (DATES.TXT)
Add automatic reminders of anniversaries, birthdays, misc, payments & events.
You can set 7 types of recurring events: D-Daily, W-Weekly, B-Biweekly
M-Monthly, Q-Quarterly, S-SemiAnnually, or A-Annually. For Weekly you may
include the day of the week (1..7) you want to be reminded on. For Biweekly
and Monthly you may include the day of the month (1..31) to begin. For
Quarterly, Semiannually and Annually, you may include the month (1..12).
Items with a specific date give a [10] day advanced warning. To launch a
program, put the DOS or Windows command in (). To autodial someone, put
the number in (). ; Semicolon turns a reminder or a whole [section] off.
Leave year out if exact date doesn't change in the new year.
Current categories of reminders include: [Anniversary], [Birthday], [Holiday],
[Misc], [Auto], [Computer], [Health], [Home], [Office], [Personal], [School],
[Religious], [Canadian], [Foreign]. Feel free to add your own. Remember to
use the TAB key to space over when creating new dates and reminders.
Learning Hints
Personal Best is only a tool. Only YOU can make lasting changes in your life!
Practice. Be certain to say affirmations and vocabulary out loud. Remember
impact, repetition, internalization, utilization, and reinforcement are the
keys to learning. All education and information is useless unless you use
what you learn every day, making it a part of your life. Use it or lose it!

A small gift of laughter from WinJokes Volume 6: "Battle of the Sexes"
Women will sometimes admit making a mistake. The last man who admitted he was
wrong was General George Custer.
A man has 6 items in his bathroom: a toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving cream, razor
razor, a bar of Dial soap, and a towel from the Holiday Inn. The average number
of items in a woman's bathroom is 437. Most of which are unidentifiable to men.
Women love cats. Men say they do, but when women aren't looking, men kick cats.
Men think David Letterman is the funniest man on the face of the Earth.
Women think he is a mean, semi-dorky guy who always has a bad haircut.
Women will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the garbage, answer
the phone, read a book, get the mail. Men will dress up for weddings & funerals
Women look nice when they wear jewelry. A man can get away one ring and that's
it. Any more than that, and he will look like a lounge singer named Vic.
Women mature much faster than men. Most 17-year-old females can function as
adults. Most 17-year-old males are still trading baseball cards and giving
wedgies after gym class. This is why high school romances rarely work out.
Women like Richard Gere because he is sexy in a dangerous way.
Men hate Richard Gere because he reminds them of that slick guy who works
at the health club and dates only married women.
Women prefer 30-40 minutes of foreplay. Men prefer 30-40 seconds of foreplay.
Men consider driving back to her place as part of the foreplay.
When reminiscing about weddings, women talk about "the ceremony".
Men talk about "the bachelor party".
Each volume has over 10,000 jokes on 100s of topics. Call (800) 484-9004 x1055
