- ************ This is the Interactive Backup Utility README file. *************
-
- The Interactive Backup Utility has two primary uses:
-
- 1) It can be used to backup files. It provides you with a interactive
- scrollable display of the filenames which are candidates for backup and lets
- you decide whether or not to actually copy them for backup. It is one of
- Murphy's laws that if you haven't backed up a file recently something will
- happen to render it unusable. Accidents and/or machine malfunction and/or
- media failure are always lurking there in the background just waiting for that
- file to become critical. The Interactive Backup Utility is designed to reduce
- the aggravation and confusion that can be associated with the backup. It
- allows you to spot those files which need to be backed up. Backup is a lot
- like buying insurance --- you may never need it --- but if you do need it and
- you aren't covered a lot of anguish can result. So before you put that
- diskette away for the day or turn off your PC, you should backup any new and
- modified files.
-
- 2) The utility has been found useful in moving files from one disk/diskette
- to another as well as from one subdirectory to another. It allows you to see
- if you will be replacing an older file which intentionally or inadvertently has
- the same filename. It will indicate whether or not there is enough space left
- on a diskette to contain all the files that you may want to copy to that
- diskette. It will allow you to delete files to make more room on the target
- diskette by temporarily making the target the source, deleting any unwanted
- files and then making that diskette the target once again. It allows you to
- quickly compare the contents of two diskettes by displaying the updated or
- unique files on the one which is currently the source.
-
-
- The Interactive Backup Utility is distributed with three files:
-
- IBU.COM - the program.
- IBU.DOC - the user guide.
- README.IBU - this file.
-
- The user guide for the Interactive Backup Utility can be printed on almost
- any printer. It is 29 pages long and contains no special printer codes other
- than the Form Feed code. The pages contain up to 61 lines so that if you print
- at 6 lines/inch on 8 1/2 by 11 paper, the paper needs to be aligned close to
- the top edge. To print the documentation use the DOS COPY command:
-
- COPY IBU.DOC PRN
