  1. ************ This is the Interactive Backup Utility README file. *************

  3.     The Interactive Backup Utility has two primary uses:
  4.  
  5.     1) It can be used to backup files.  It provides you with a interactive
  6. scrollable display of the filenames which are candidates for backup and lets
  7. you decide whether or not to actually copy them for backup.  It is one of
  8. Murphy's laws that if you haven't backed up a file recently something will
  9. happen to render it unusable.  Accidents and/or machine malfunction and/or
  10. media failure are always lurking there in the background just waiting for that
  11. file to become critical.  The Interactive Backup Utility is designed to reduce
  12. the aggravation and confusion that can be associated with the backup.  It
  13. allows you to spot those files which need to be backed up.  Backup is a lot
  14. like buying insurance --- you may never need it --- but if you do need it and
  15. you aren't covered a lot of anguish can result.  So before you put that
  16. diskette away for the day or turn off your PC, you should backup any new and
  17. modified files.

  19.     2) The utility has been found useful in moving files from one disk/diskette
  20. to another as well as from one subdirectory to another.  It allows you to see
  21. if you will be replacing an older file which intentionally or inadvertently has
  22. the same filename.  It will indicate whether or not there is enough space left
  23. on a diskette to contain all the files that you may want to copy to that
  24. diskette.  It will allow you to delete files to make more room on the target
  25. diskette by temporarily making the target the source, deleting any unwanted
  26. files and then making that diskette the target once again.  It allows you to
  27. quickly compare the contents of two diskettes by displaying the updated or
  28. unique files on the one which is currently the source.

  31.     The Interactive Backup Utility is distributed with three files:

  33.      IBU.COM     - the program.
  34.      IBU.DOC     - the user guide.
  35.      README.IBU  - this file.
  36.  
  37.     The user guide for the Interactive Backup Utility can be printed on almost
  38. any printer.  It is 29 pages long and contains no special printer codes other
  39. than the Form Feed code.  The pages contain up to 61 lines so that if you print
  40. at 6 lines/inch on 8 1/2 by 11 paper, the paper needs to be aligned close to
  41. the top edge.  To print the documentation use the DOS COPY command:
