- AbTech Introduces PC Version of AIM (tm)
-
- Charlottesville, VA ... July 30, 1990 ... AbTech announces the
- release of their AIM machine learning tool for IBM-PCs and
- compatibles. AIM-PC complements AbTech's existing products; AIM-MAC
- for the Apple Macintosh and AIM-VAX for the DEC VAX. The
- introduction of AIM-PC greatly increases the potential customer base
- for AIM. AIM-PC provides the same combination of modeling power and
- ease of use that AIM customers have come to expect.
-
- AIM is a complete environment for creating, evaluating, and
- implementing network models. Like neural networks, AIM models
- relationships in numerical databases of examples. Unlike neural
- networks, AIM is easy to learn and easy to use because it
- automatically learns the network structure and node types from the
- data. AIM can output its networks as standard 'C' subroutines
- for easy integration with expert systems or customer application
- software.
-
- AIM, the Un-Neural Network, implements networks of powerful
- mathematical functions which are not constrained by neuron analogies.
- By combining these networks, called abductive networks, with proven
- regression techniques, AIM creates more accurate models than neural
- networks for many problems.
-
- In the past, neural network product comparisons were based on
- features such as the number of available paradigms and similarity to
- actual neurons. AbTech has moved the discussion to comparisons of
- performance on real-world problems and practicality. Gerard
- Montgomery, AbTech's president, sums it up as, "The question
- customers should ask about modeling tools is 'can this product solve
- my problem?' If the neural network market is going to reach its
- potential, more practical products are necessary."
-
- Most users learn to use AIM in under an hour with the tutorials, then
- put the manual on the shelf and put AIM to work on their problem.
- AIM is powerful enough for artificial intelligence experts, but easy
- enough to use that it is a viable alternative for a businessperson
- using regression.
-
- AIM is an effective tool for finding underlying relationships in a
- database. An example application is a marketing analyst with a
- database of past marketing campaigns and the results of various
- marketing approaches. The analyst can use AIM to build a model, then
- perform what-ifs to predict the results (sales, consumer awareness,
- ROI, etc.) of various campaigns. Unlike spreadsheets, the user does
- not have to know the underlying relationships to build this model.
-
- AIM-PC requires DOS 3.3 or above, 640K of RAM, and a hard drive. A
- math coprocessor is strongly recommended. Prices for AIM start at
- $495. AIM comes with an unconditional 30 day guarantee. Training
- and application support are available at either AbTech or the
- customer's location.
-
- AbTech is an advanced computing technologies company that markets AIM
- and provides artificial intelligence consulting and R&D services.
