  15.        The _x_d_i_t_v_i_e_w program displays _d_i_t_r_o_f_f output on an X  dis-
  16.        play.   It  uses no special metrics and automatically con-
  17.        verts the printer  coordinates  into  screen  coordinates;
  18.        using  the  user-specified  screen resolution, rather than
  19.        the actual resolution so that the appropriate fonts can be
  20.        found.    If ``--'' is given as the _f_i_l_e_n_a_m_e_, _x_d_i_t_v_i_e_w reads
  21.        from standard input.  If ``||'' is the first  character  of
  22.        _f_i_l_e_n_a_m_e_,  _x_d_i_t_v_i_e_w forks _s_h to run the rest of the ``file
  23.        name'' and uses the standard output of that command.

  26.        _X_d_i_t_v_i_e_w accepts all of the  standard  X     Toolkit  command
  27.        line  options  along  with  the    additional options listed
  28.        below:

  31.            This option specifies the page number of the docu-
  32.            ment to be displayed at start up time.

  35.            This  specifies    the  desired screen resolution to
  36.            use; fonts will be opened by requesting this reso-
  37.            lution field in the XLFD names.

  40.            Some X servers incorrectly implement PolyText with
  41.            multiple strings per request.   This  option  sup-
  42.            pesses the use of this feature in _x_d_i_t_v_i_e_w_.

  44.        --bbaacckkiinnggSSttoorree _b_a_c_k_i_n_g_-_s_t_o_r_e_-_t_y_p_e
  45.            Redisplay  can  take  up     to  a second or so; this
  46.            option causes the server to save the  window  con-
  47.            tents so that when it is scrolled around the view-
  48.            port, the window is painted from contents saved in
  49.            backing    store.     _b_a_c_k_i_n_g_-_s_t_o_r_e_-_t_y_p_e can be one of
  50.            AAllwwaayyss, WWhheennMMaappppeedd or NNoottUUsseeffuull.

  165.        You  can     use  any  ditroff  output  file  with    _x_d_i_t_v_i_e_w_,
  166.        although     files    which  use  the     fonts appropriate to the
  167.        fontMap will look more accurate on the screen.  On servers
  168.        which  support scaled fonts, all requested font sizes will
  169.        be accurately reflected on the screen; for  servers  which
  170.        do  not    support scaled _x_d_i_t_v_i_e_w will use the closest font
  171.        from the same family.
