  8. Two-in-One originates from Germany and initially only a German version of
  9. the program and documentation was available. Thanks to Joe Connor and the
  10. System ST Team this English version is supported in the UK.
  11.  
  12. Two-in-One is intuitive to use and features context sensitive on-line 
  13. help using an ST-Guide hypertext so this documentation is much smaller 
  14. than it used to be!

  22. Prolog: ST-GUIDE installation
  23. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

  25. The installation of ST-GUIDE is very simple. Don't be put off by the 
  26. number of files included in the ST-GUIDE distribution. For normal use 
  27. simply copy ST-GUIDE.ACC to the root directory of your boot partition 
  28. or disk and reboot your system, that's it!
  29.  
  30. If you'd like to take advantage of the many advanced features offered 
  31. by ST-GUIDE (for example if you would prefer to keep all your hypertext 
  32. files in a single folder) edit ST-GUIDE.INF to suit your requirements 
  33. and copy it to the root directory of your boot partition or disk.

  36. About Two-in-One
  37. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

  39. Two-in-One can be started in several different ways:
  40.  
  41. From a command line (CLI); the GEM Shell is not displayed and 
  42. Two-in-One is in 'Manager' mode. In this mode files are automatically 
  43. archived and unarchived. This method is ideal from desktops offering 
  44. drag n drop features, such as GEMINI.
  45.  
  46. Starting Two-in-One directly; the GEM Shell is displayed featuring a 
  47. intuitive interface. From the Shell you can configure Two-in-One to 
  48. handle all the popular archive formats, set up paths and parameters to 
  49. call virus detectors, programs to create self extracting archives, 
  50. external file viewers and other external programs.
  51.  
  52. Output from the archive programs is handled using GEM Window(s). Under 
  53. MultiTOS and MAG!X, Two-in-One and the archive program are started in 
  54. parallel mode and output from the archive program handled by the 
  55. respective utility, MINIWIN.APP with MultiTOS and VT52.PRG with MAG!X.

  58. The 'Manager' functions
  59. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

  61. The following keys can be used in 'Manager' mode:
  62.  
  63. [Shift]: Hold this key down to call the GEM Shell which will appear
  64. pre-loaded with the selected archive.
  65.  
  66. [Alternate]: Hold this key down to create a folder with the same name 
  67. as the archive into which the archive will be unpacked.

  70. Supported archive formats
  71. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

  73. LHARC: Versions >=2.20 of LHarc programmed by Christian Grunenberg are
  74.        supported. From V2.30 password support is included.
  75.  
  76. ZIP:   Versions >=2.0 of STZip programmed by Vincent Pomey are supported.
  77.  
  78. ZOO:   Versions >=2.0 of ZOO adapted for the ST by Gereon Steffens.

  80. ARC:   I've tested Two-in-One with V6.02. Unfortunately some of the
  81.        options detailed in the documentation don't function as described
  82.        and other options don't appear to be implemented...
  83.  
  84. UNARJ: Versions >=2.41 of UNARJ are supported. This is the first version
  85.        to offer sensible parameters for handling archives. Other UNARJ
  86.        programs are no longer supported. The documentation supplied with
  87.        this software is confused and badly structured, just what you'd
  88.        expect from MS-DOS-software.
  89.  
  90. It's quite possible Two-in-One earlier versions of the archive programs 
  91. listed above will cause problems. Please obtain the latest versions and 
  92. try those before reporting problems.

  95. Other stuff you should know
  96. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

  98.  -New features will not necessarily be detailed here. Refer to the file 
  99.   TWOINONE.NEW and the ST-Guide hypertext for the latest revisions.
  100.  
  101.  -TWOINONE.CFG contains the options for the individual archive 
  102.   programs. You can change these using a text editor but be careful not 
  103.   to change lines which begin with '#'. Additionally it's important not 
  104.   to enter more than 26 options per archive program!
  105.  
  106.  -To use Two-in-One in 'Manager' mode from the desktop/GEMINI it's
  107.   important to bear in mind the following:
  108.   As a default path you should normally use the path of the archive. As an
  109.   expert option you could, for example, take the path of the top window,
  110.   as a default. In this case the active path must come from Gemini and not
  111.   Two-in-One.
  112.   You can set this from within Gemini using the following option: 'setenv 
  113.   TWOINONE_PRG "D:N"' or 'setenv OPT_TWOINONE_PRG "D:N"'
  114.   Incidentally, on starting Two-in-One the Directory window displays the
  115.   current directory, and ignores whatever directory the Shell would
  116.   otherwise look for.
  117.  
  118.  -If you install Two-in-One using the built-in Atari desktop be sure to
  119.   set the 'Full path' option in the 'Install application' dialog under
  120.   the Parameter setting.
  121.  
  122.  -The menu shortcuts can easily be changed using a Resource file editor
  123.   (eg Interface).
  124.  
  125.  -Ghost dialogs: Hold down either [Shift] key or the right mouse button
  126.   and click on the Flying Dial corner to make it 'invisible'. This is
  127.   useful, for example, to view the main Two-in-One window under a Help
  128.   dialog.
  129.  
  130.  -Problems with QUICK ST/TURBO ST/WARP 9: It's been brought to my attention 
  131.   that some people have problems with text output from the archiver being 
  132.   written outside the window provided.
  133.   This is caused by one of the programs mentioned above and is NOT a bug in 
  134.   Two-in-One! There are solutions to this problem:
  135.   *Use CONS_FIX.PRG and place it in your AUTO folder which must run before 
  136.    QUICK ST/TURBO ST/WARP9
  137.   *Use NVDI which faster and far more compatible.

  143. Two-in-One is Shareware and may be freely distributed for non-commercial
  144. purposes. If you use Two-in-One regularly you are honour bound to pay a
  145. Shareware fee of DM 25 to the author. Alternatively you can register 
  146. via InterActive, refer to SUPPORT.TXT for details.
  147.  
  148. Two-in-One is NOT a Freeware Program! PD libraries, magazines or any other
  149. organisations may only distribute Two-in-One with my written permission.
  150. Any contravention of my wishes will be strongly challenged.
