  5. The GEM  OPTIONS dialog  allows  you to  customize  the
  6. behaviour of Edith specific to the GEM interface.

  9. In standard  ATARI applications, the  ACTIVE WINDOW  is
  10. always the top window, i.e. when  you type text on  the
  11. keyboard, it appears in the top window. When the  MOUSE
  12. switch is selected  instead, text will  be inserted  in
  13. the window right  below the mouse  pointer; also,  when
  14. MultiTOS or WINX is used  mouse clicks on objects in  a
  15. background window will not top the window.

  17.    ** When WINX or MultiTOS is used, applications which
  18.       understand the AV_KEY message may even respond to
  19.       key input  in background  windows when  an  Edith
  20.       window is on top.   However, this may also  cause
  21.       uncautious programs to crash.

  24. Normally, when the closer box  of a window is  clicked,
  25. the window will be closed.  When ICONIFY is selected in
  26. the window  options dialog,   clicking the  closer  box
  27. will cause a window to be iconified instead.

  30. Edith's ALERT boxes are normally presented in a window,
  31. so that other applications or accessories can still  be
  32. used when an Edith alert  is on the screen.  The  QUICK
  33. switch brings back  the old type  of alert boxes.

  35.    ** Quick  alert  boxes  do  not  react  to  keyboard
  36.       shortcuts except RETURN.

  39. Edith's FILE SELECTOR normally  makes use of a  window.
  40. When the STANDARD switch is selected, the standard  TOS
  41. item selector  is used  instead.   This option  is  NOT
  42. available when MultiTOS or  the desk accessory  version
  43. are being used.

  46. Windows can be  SNAPPED for  extra display  performance
  47. (text windows) and to avoid distorted dot patterns when
  48. moving windows which contain a SCROLL BAR.  The  latter
  49. is a problem of ATARI GEM  which can also be solved  by
  50. using WINX by Martin Osieka.

  53. Select USE GEM  CLIPBOARD if  you wish to  use the  GEM
  54. clipboard instead of an internal cut/paste buffer.

  57.    ** The clipboard  sense  interval known  from  older
  58.       Edith versions is obsolete (periodical sensing is
  59.       no  more  applied).  To  force  a  read  of   the
  60.       clipboard, top any Edith  window, or use the  key
  61.       combination Control  +  V  instead  of  the  menu
  62.       entry.
