  4. Eliza   is   a   new   GEM-based    version   of   the   old
  5. computer-psychatrist  program  Eliza.  The  original program
  6. was developed in  the  70's  and  was  an  early  example of
  7. artificial  intelligence.  American  students  believed that
  8. they were  talking  to  a  real  human  being! They answered
  9. every question correctly  and  so  they  felt  understood by
  10. Eliza which only recognized a  few  words.  Right now in the
  11. 90's you can talk to Eliza, too.  And you can even feel more
  12. understood than the students!

  14. This version knows a lot more words than the old TOS version
  15. and is  also  more  "intelligent".  There  are  some special
  16. words or other  events  which  cause  a  special reaction by
  17. Eliza. Try to find them all!!!
  18.  
  19. Eliza runs on all Atari computers & clones with at least TOS
  20. 1.0. You can either run it as  an Accessory or as a program.
  21. This program  is  resolution  independent  but  some dialogs
  22. require 80 columns. There is special  support for 16 and 256
  23. colours but there are  no  restrictions for monchrome users.
  24. GDOS, the clipboard and iconify are also supported.
  25. Since 1.3 the program uses  colour icons. Older TOS versions
  26. won't display these icons so buy TOS 6 or N.AES!

  28. The font  selector  only  works  if  you  have  installed an
  29. exterernal font  selector  that  follows  the  xfsl standard
  30. (Calvino, Hugo).

  32. "Visit my homepage" requires  a  WWW browser and an internet
  33. connection.

  35. "Cut","Copy","Paste"  -   no   joke,   Eliza   supports  the
  36. clipboard!  Although  this   is   not  a  typical  clipboard
  37. application I  have  included  this  feature  to demonstrate
  38. that clipboard support is very easy  with Face Value. If you
  39. click on "Cut"  or  "Copy"  Eliza  creates a file containing
  40. the text in the 'you'  field.  "Paste" copies the first text
  41. line of "Scrap.txt" in the 'you' field.

  43. New in v1.3:
  44.  - Every browser works (Light of Adamas, CAB, WenSuite)
  45.  - If the browser is not currently in memory it will be started
  46.    - this is multitasking only and you have to set the env.

  49.  - Send an email to me. Currently supported are Marathon and
  50.    ASH-Emailer.
  51.  - You can also use other browsers and email programs by
  52.    specifying the environment strings:
  53.      BROWSER=<location of your browser>
  54.      EMAIL=<location of your email program>

  56. Distribution on PD libraries is allowed. Manufacturers of CDs
  57. should drop me a mail before publishing this program...
  58. Any changes to the program are forbidden. The distribution
  59. shouldn't be changed - don't remove or add files!
