  15. A common 8-bit Zilog microprocessor, particularly used in old CP/M systems.

  23. The binary or decimal digit represented by '0' indicating the absence of a 
  24. value or a 'false' result in a logic operation.

  27. Zero-bit
  28. A 0-bit, representing binary zero.

  31. Zero divide
  32. A processor exception that occurs when a program tries to divide something by 
  33. zero. In mathematics and programming the result is undefined so after catching 
  34. this error TOS normally returns control back to the program making the result 
  35. random garbage. See Exception vectors, Bombs.

  38. Zero insertion force - ZIF
  39. A type of socket for integrated circuit devices in which a lever with a cam 
  40. action is incorporated to permit a device to be inserted or removed without 
  41. applying pressure to the pins. Often used in EPROM blowers.

  44. Zero suppression
  45. An operation to eliminate zeros that have no significance from numbers before 
  46. they are displayed, e.g. to change 0001.200 to 1.2. Sometimes other characters 
  47. are substituted, especially on machine printed cheques, as in ***1.2. This is 
  48. a typical spreadsheet function.

  52. Zero Insertion Force.

  56. Zigzag In-Line. An integrated circuit package where alternate pins from a 
  57. single row are bent in opposite directions to form a zigzag.

  60. Zilog 85C30 SCC
  61. A dual standard, multi-protocol data communications chip in a 44-pin PLCC 
  62. package on the TT and Falcon providing two serial ports (A and B). It has an 
  63. asynchronous transfer rate of about 250 Kbits per second and a synchronous 
  64. rate of 1 Mbit per second. See SCC ports.

  68. A file compression format with the .ZIP file name extender. It has the 
  69. advantages of processing files very quickly with large compression ratios, 
  70. especially with the 'deflate' method.

  74. Zigzag In-Line Package. Synonymous with ZIL.

  78. A data transfer protocol using Xmodem with CRC-16 or CRC-32 and Ymodem 
  79. technology but providing greater reliability, throughput speed, file 
  80. management and error recovery. Of particular importance is that any aborted 
  81. file transfer can be resumed from the same point on another occasion.
