- What is Cruise Mode?
-
- Cruise Mode is an option setting within SFTP that allows
- the program to perform uploads and downloads in a separate process.
- By placing uploads and downloads in a completely separate process, the
- user is able to continue to "Cruise" through directories and ftp sites
- without interupting the file transfer process. Also, since the file transfer
- function is in a separate process, a kill process function is available to
- abort file transfers.
-
- How does Cruise Mode work?
-
- First, you must ensure that the Cruise Mode check box is selected. You then
- choose a file to download by double clicking on the file name, or select a file
- to upload using the Upload Menu. Entries for these selections are placed in the
- Transfer window. You then click the transfer button. At this point, the file
- transfer process begins and you are free to roam other directories or sites.
-
- Why is Cruise Mode an option instead of Standard?
-
- With Cruise Mode, each time a file download or upload is initiated, the program must
- log on to the remote host. This creates a delay in the program which does not exist
- when not in Cruise Mode. If you have a slow internet connection, or only want to
- download files from a single host, sftp will return the files faster without Cruise
- Mode. However, without Cruise Mode, you will not be able to change directories,
- view files, or log on to other hosts during the transfer process. The kill function is
- only available in Cruise Mode as well. For pure speed, however, you can deselect
- the Cruise Mode option.
