  13. helper application. It will start
  14. playing one or more files as soon as
  15. they are chosen. Unlimited queuing is
  16. automatic. Looping. Can show ASCII
  17. contents. Standard play controls.

  24. Short Description
  25. -----------------
  26. MIDIGate can be used either as a stand-alone MIDI player or as
  27. a Web browser helper application.
  28.  
  29. - <NEW> MidiGate used under Windoes 95/98/NT can load and display long filenames.
  30.   This version, however, still cannot save files using long filenames.
  31.   If you want to have a long filename for a MIDI file, save it (using the
  32.   short filename) and then rename it later to a long filename.
  33. - MidiGate will start PLAYING as soon as given a filename argument.
  34. - MidiGate's Queue allows you to click many .mid file links,
  35.   as fast as your winsock allows: they will all be entered in the queue.
  36.   There's no need to wait for one file to complete downloading
  37.   before clicking to download another file.
  38. - Use the Save As function before you exit your browser though:
  39.   Otherwise the files (usually downloaded in your Temp directory)
  40.   will be deleted by the exiting browser before they have a
  41.   chance to be played!
  42. - Seek feature by pointing to the gauge

  44. Some new features have been added to the latest release.
  45. - You can choose to reset the midi system each time MidiGate starts a new sequence.
  46. - Play one of four midi reset files (GM, GS, XG, Patches)
  47. - You can also select if you want MidiGate to start up minimized or not.
  48. - Select one or more files to place in the queue at once.
  49. - Delete one or more files from your disk at once.
  50. - Queue all files in one instance (unlimited number)
  51. - Save and recall your favorite queues
  52. - Looping, auto-exit, auto-stop control
  53. - "Stay-on-top" function
  54. - Scan for text in the midi file (while playing)
  55. - Display path and length of file
  56. - Invoke mixer

  58. Click the "Hint" key in the About form to get an idea...
  59.  
  60. You should tell your browser that MidiGate should be invoked
  61. whenever a Mime = Audio/Midi (or whatever your server sends)
  62. file is received.
  63. MidiGate will automatically play a MIDI sequence when:
  64.         1) the browser receives a file with a Mime=Midi header
  65.         2) it is given a filename as an argument;
  66. otherwise, it will present a directory and file list to choose
  67. a sequence interactively.

  69. In case (1) and (2), the sequence will be played even if the file
  70. received or given has an extension <> ".mid" - which does happen!
  71. The program will queue itself in if a sequence is received/given
  72. before another one has finished playing. At the end of play,
  73. the program automatically terminates, unless you defeat that
  74. function by clicking the checkbox at the end of the gauge.

  76. Finally, although the program is automatically reduced to an
  77. icon at start up, it can be restored if one wishes to see or
  78. control the status of the player.

  80. Installation Note: The Installation Kit file is MIDIGAT_.EXE.
  81. The actual executable file is MIDIGATE.EXE. Once you've
  82. run MIDIGAT_.EXE once (to install and create MIDIGATE.EXE)
  83. you may want to delete MIDIGAT_.EXE to save disk space.
