- I have The Altogether poster in a 3 1/2' x 5' hanging in our studio. It
- looks great, everyone loves it. By the way, you can find it at most poster
- shops on the web, i got mine for $9.99. As for what else is going on out
- there since you can't get to Loopz site anymore:
- 1) Both Creamfields in NY & Vegas were cancelled
- 2) The DVD is being released on Aug. 27 (Europe) so probably the 28
- for us here in the US, but not sure about that.
- 3) Still no tour dates listed for the US, but Loopz assures me they
- are coming soon.
- 4) I ate some corn yesterday.
-
- As for the issue about the people selling stuff on ebay, Randy you're right.
- There are bigger fish to fry or more serious things to worry about in the
- world. Will i report them, No probably not. I have had to Buy many a bootleg
- over ebay, so i know it serves its purpose for the buyer and seller. Just
- thought it was interesting to see the gig up there though, especially since
- it's only half. I know on other lists that i subscribe to, the people get
- really upset when they see gigs up on ebay and they do report them. I just
- have 1 question for ya? N'Sync? WTF!!!!! How they hell did that cross your
- path?
-
- Well that's all for now. See ya.

- Squarepusher became ill. See www.warprecords.com for details.
-
- I'm quite upset about this (trying to avoid using bad words like
- "pissed"), as I was really anticipating the August 24th show in NYC. Now
- they cancelled that NYC date and moved the what now is a Plaid/Mira Calix
- show to the 20th, on a weekday, in some other venue, etc, etc. And, the
- funny thing is, the price of the ticket went down from $17.50 to $15. So
- Squarepusher was worth $2.50? Bollocks, I say!
-
- I'm surprised that there aren't more people complaining about this, but my
- guess is that they are just being mature :)
-
- Grr, have to go into town tomorrow to get a refund.

- **IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO SEE PLAID GO SEE THEM, IT'S BEAUTIFUL!**
-
- There have been a lot of cancellations this summer and it's sad.
- Plus the recent electronic concerts I have been to seem to be VERY
- undersold and/or filled with an unenthusiastic crowd:
-
- 1) Autechre - kind of packed but no one was into it (it was hard for
- me to get into too though)
- 2) Juno Reactor - two shows, both less than half full
- 3) Crystal Method - two shows, one less than half full the other sold
- out but a dead dead crowd
- 4) Plaid - kind of packed and semi into it prob the best crowd
- considering many were probably mad that Squarepusher wasn't playing.
-
- I sure hope this type of turn out doesn't deter electronic acts from
- coming around. It makes me sad when I think that the 'raves' with
- nothing but DJs (no live acts) can draw 30,000 people but the artists
- above are usually half selling a 1000 capacity venue.

-
- I saw Juno Reactor last June in New York City's Knitting Factory. It was
- f**king *AWESOME*. I had so much damn fun. The venue was quite small
- (there was probably like 100 or fewer people in), so I was really close.
-
- The real treat was Juno Reactor playing along with a South African group,
- whose name I forget. That group had six guys, all dressed up and painted
- up in a native, tribal fashion, banging out *incredible* rhythms out of
- the big variety of percussion that they had.
-
- That show manged to blend trance (psy variety, not ATB or Paul Van Dyk)
- with ethnic/tribal percussion and sounds (they actually played a few
- African instruments, names of which I don't know), with Spanish guitar
- kinda feel (a Spanish chick, dressed traditionally, was dancing along with
- the traditionally outfitted African group, with Ben Watkins in an orange
- "Lovers Rock" shirt standing back--where else do you see that?). Sometimes
- the show had that strong "stadium rock anthem" feel, where the fans were
- singing, screaming along to sound samples of certain tracks (and humming
- tunes), sometimes it had the pure electronic psychodelic frenzy, with
- electronic bass squelching, mutating thru the PA system. Sometimes the
- audience caught up in magic of the polyrhythmic percussion, aside from
- which only the electronic bass was playing.
-
- There's plenty more to describe, but I need to do work and such. The
- opening group, Medicine Drum, was also quite good, but I missed the first
- half of their 1-hr set.
-
- I came out of that Juno Reactor show with no voice and my back was sore
- for the next two days. Riding the New York City subway & ferry seemed
- surreal, at deep night, after that concert.

-
- I agree wholeheartedly. Juno Reactor and the African band Amampondo (I
- looked it up on a web site) definitely rock the house. It seems so powerful
- and perfect.
-
- I'm surprised the New York City gig was at a place of about 100 people.. if
- that's the case then SoCal did pretty well attendance-wise between their two
- shows back in June.

- Man there doesnt seem to be any sort of good news going around about
- music right now. I mean, all these concert cancellations (some of them for
- the better; some of these shows [ahem mekka, i originally thought i would go
- til i read the lineup] seemed to me to be nothing but money fests to
- capitalise on the recent limp bizkit converts and there insatiable desire to
- fit into the 'techno underground'), and all these unenthusiastic crowds,
- what is going on here?! Have we just become spoiled or is it really bleak
- times?
- Another factor is the recent slew of terrible albums being released.
- I have seen crystal method live twice before, and especially the first show
- i saw before they kinda hit it big was fucking pure ENERGY. damn it was fun,
- thanks mostly in part to lunatic calm. But ya know, as much fun as I had at
- both shows, I am boycotting all four texas shows on the grounds of how
- FUCKING GOD AWFUL their new cd is. And then there's Tricky. I wont lie, I
- havent heard the whole cd, but what i have heard is very very very sub-par.
- Evolution Revolution Love??? Hand me a bucket and beat me on the back of the
- head with a rotting salmon, i want to throw up. NO excuse for that. Ive
- heard so many people tlaking about the new album from so-and-so being such a
- disapointment. What is happening to us?!
- Who shall step forward to save us? I suppose we could put all hope
- in our Drukqs, but if that turns out to be a bad trip, who pays for the
- rehab? Will plaid minus Squarepusher lend a hand? Will it be Orbital? Or
- will we be totally lost by then and think we are just glasses of orange
- juice (who hasnt heard THAT urban legend)?
- Not all is bad though, it seems that the good stuff is still here,
- just below the surface, maybe deeper than before. I have definitely heard
- some good stuff lately, but it is just sad to kind of witness the changing
- of the guard if you will. I know I am just sort of parading around the list
- with a "Repent now! The End is Near!" sign, so somebody else, lets hear some
- social commentary. And i hope nobody gets bothered by any of this, none of
- its set in stone I just feel like venting.
