- CGI Joe, at your service. I don't know of one offhand, but there might

- Bose is just okay for one thing, really. That's for listening to DVDs and
- LaserDiscs as a home theater set-up. They're just satellite speakers with a
- mid-sized woofer. The woofer is powerful but it's muudy as well. This is
- all well and good for cranking up a good movie but for serious listening,
- forget it. There is no way to position these little things for setting up a
- sweet spot, an equidistant listening area that I use for mixdown of
- recordings. I also consider that type of speaker placement ideal for serious
- stereo image listening. I only have two ears so I don't buy into this
- surround-sound crap. Its fine for theaters but all of my records and CDs
- were mixed down for 2 eared listening. So - that's my 2 cents. Bose cannot
- be considered as a "serious" choice.
- P.S. The Bose speakers were fine for listening to "Middle of Nowhere" while
- I painted the living room last week, but I would hardly call that "serious"
- listening...

-
- Oh, I thought you were ditching surround sound in general. Personally,
- I don't believe in encoding music for surround sound because everybody
- has their different preference on how they hear music (esp. with the
- differences between headphones and a full speaker system). I like my
- studio setting for techno and other instrumental music, and the sim
- surround for vocal stuff. (This is because the vocals get drowned out
- in the studio setting, but the studio setting has a better "global"
- effect otherwise.)
-
- But, with movies, you actually want to hear sound effects in the right
- places. Those, IMO, should have surround encoding.

- Subject: Re[2]: (orbital) Beached
-
- Well, here's my opinion on Beached.
-
- I like it. Leonardo is certainly very annoying, but it doesn't disgust
- me too much. I just don't care. But just the fact of having his voice
- over the song for so *long* is annoying.
-
- Besides that, I really like the lead. It is definitely electronic, yet
- you can see that Orbital made it sound "old", like a 40s accordion sorta
- sound. I'm not sure, but it had that oldie feel anyway (like on some of
- them old records). I doesn't sound plastic at all, nor does it have the
- videogame feel (C64 square wave sorta feel). I think this is rather tough
- to achieve.
-
- The actual melody sounds in certain parts like, again, a 40s music piece
- of sorts. I have a hard time describing this. At any rate, at one point,
- the lead melody touches the cheesy side when it especially sounds "old
- style" like that.
-
- But it's ok. It's an interesting, good sounding piece with zero
- eurotrash in it. I don't hear any eurotrash influences at all. All I
- hear is IDM plus old 40s records influences.
-
- Marc Sawaya said the song sounded like videogame music. I don't agree
- with that either, because not only the sound doesn't cut it to be
- classified as "videogame music", but also the melody doesn't approach
- the typical cheesiness of your average console game music tune.
-
- In other words, I like it. It's something different, but I like it.
-
-
- Just my personal opinion,

-
- unfortunately, you're right. met one at the concert, boyfriend wasn't even
- dancing with her, bastard. i mean, if you're going to bring your lady to a
- concert that she's into, dance with her! even if you're not into the music,
- as long as you're sharing that experience with her, right? but at least
- there's still the fact that those women are out there. laterz.

- Hey,
-
- I have a question for anyone in Seattle, I'm assuming that their is an age
- limit for the show at Club I-Spy, so I am wondering how strict they are with
- ID checking? I am in Vancouver, and this is the closest show, if only they
- were playing Vancouver. Also, directions to get there would be wicked.
