- Any Paul Van Dyk fans on the list? If so I'd like some advice on his new
- limited 3CD set Vorsprung Dyk Technik. I spotted a copy at my local Wall
- today and almost died, mostly because of the price (don't ask). Can any
- PVD fans say with certainty if a fan of his Seven Ways album (the only
- disc I have) would enjoy Vorsprung Dyk Technik? I keep thinking that
- when I go there next it'll be... you know :) So any advice is much

-
- its according to the size of your current orb collection... its a great
- starter kit but most of the tracks are seven inch mixes or radio edits...
- the second disc in the limited two cd set has quite a bit of tasty stuff
- but avid orb collectors had at least 75% of the material before getting it...
-
- so there, ambivalence at its worse... get it if you need an introduction
- and also get it if you are a completist... in between those two extremes,

- Yeah, I'm a really big PVD fan, take it from me, the collection is worth
- it...some of the mixes are hard to find, and some haven't been released at
- all. The Flaming June extended mix is worth the price alone, it's over 11
- minutes long. PVD mixed all the tracks together except the last disc, it's
- all pretty impressive. I'm not quite sure why he released this
- collection--earlier this year he released that Perspective collection which
- primarily contained the same mixes but they were unmixed. I prefer remix
- albums unmixed, but PVD aways does a good job so you won't be disappointed.
- Definitely listen to the 15 minute Curve remix, the vocals were chopped
- ouit of the mix that made it out commercially. This mix is much better and
- the dina carroll mix is great, only available on a white label. Tht white
- label is worth hunting down too...
-
- Anyway, hope that helps!

- Hmm, other than a couple of the new remixes and the Little fluffy clouds
- that was recorded at the show I went to, I wasn't all that terribly
- impressed by it. It sorta felt wrong. I remember alex paterson complaining
- about having to release edited versions of the song back in the day, and I
- agree. I applaud them re-releasing some of the older, rarer stuff, but I
- can do without a 3 minute version of 'a huge ever growing pulsating
- brain'. I'm also pissed because they chopped 2-3 minutes off the beginning
- of that 'little fluffy clouds'. It started out as a mishmash of lfc, brain,
- and into the fourth dimension, layered on top of each other, along with the
- x-rated version of 'my favorite things', then little fluffy clouds just
- sort of drifted out of the mess. It was one of the coolest concert moments
- (even above halcyon live the first time) I've ever experienced, and the
- just sorta lopped it off. Oh well, bottom line is, It's an Orb album, so
- I'm sitting here listening to it anyway.. :)

- Hola to all my fellow Orbital fans,
-
- First of all I would like to wish everyone (here in the US at least) a
- belated HAPPY THANKS GIVING! Secondly...after spending LOTS (too much in
- fact) time with the family over this joyous holiday occasion I was filled
- with all kinds of concert info. Over 80% of this information is pure
- bullshit because...well...everyone in my family is a bunch of habitual
- liars and would do anything to raise my hopes and then dash them. First I
- heard that Paul & Phil were gonna make their way over here to the US and do
- a big GIG in Chicago. Well I knew off that bat that it was false...cause
- hey...if it were true I'd already know and have tickets. Then I heard all
- kinds of other BS. The one thing I heard that wqas halfway true I need
- more information on. My cousin told me that Fat Boy Slim was gonna make an
- appearance at a club somewhere in Chicago on Dec. 13th. My favor to ask
- from you guys...if you know ANY more about this show please let me know.
- As of now I have no clue. I don't know what club, exact date, anything.
- All I know is that it's an all ages show.
-
- I know FBS has undergone lots of "mud slinging" on this list (I know I
- deleted close to 75 messages containing the words "Off Topic - Fat Boy
- Slim") but I do like a few of his songs and owuld like to see him
- live...just to see how talented he really is...and that it's not all studio
- work.
-
- Ok it's late..I need to go to bed.
-
- Love you all!

- Subject: (orbital) Review / ambient Nordheim Transformed Ltd.
-
- I just had this double album fall through my mailbox this very morning
- and already by listening to it, I can't help but feel impressed at this
- Norwegian artist's efforts all that time back in the late 1960s, early
- 1970s. I am talking about the Norwegian electroacoustic artist Arne
- Nordheim and his first cd "Electric" which is exactly one of the most
- essential milestones in the relatively short history of Norwegian
- electroacoustic music. This cd has now been remixed/"transformed" by
- Biosphere and Deathprod, two of Norway's leading electronica artists at
- the moment, and the result is the same old, good ambient as produced by
- Biosphere before. I've not heard any other albums by Deathprod, but his
- success in Norway is still unquestionable.
-
- "Nordheim transformed" has seven tracks, evenly distributed between the
- two artists for remixing and is mostly driven by absent-minded tunes,
- sounds of winds, storms, dark, low hertz underlying basses, natural
- elements, etc. accompanied at suitable moments by the sound of a myriad
- of ringing bells, occasional bleeps or radio signals and it's all in
- style with the other works of Biosphere.
-
- On the "Electric" cd of this double album (the original from 1974 by
- Arne Nordheim himself) the following tracks appear :
-
- 1 solitaire
- 2 pace
- 3 warszawa
- 4 polypoly
- 5 colorazione
-
- On the "Nordheim transformed" cd of the album (the transformed mixes by
- Biosphere and Deathprod) the following tracks appear :
-
- 1 trasparenza ("colorazione" transformed by Biosphere)
- 2 journey to the centre of the first 1.1 ("warszawa" transformed by
- Deathprod)
- 3 katedra botaniki ("pace" transformed by Biosphere)
- 4 warp/warble ("polypoly" transformed by Deathprod)
- 5 les fleurs du mal ("solitaire" transformed by Biosphere)
- 6 twin decks ("polypoly" transformed by Deathprod)
- 7 journey to the centre of the first 1.2 ("colorazione" transformed by
- Deathprod)
-
- The album is an excellent choice to add to your ambient collection, and
- does not require much listening to mark the stand of two of Norway's
- finest electronica artists in the ambient genre.
-
- If you come across it, do not hesitate to buy it...
-
- Regards,
-
- Trym
