- Hmmm...flat and boring? I think not. Stipe doesn't have the greatest
- range but he gets up there a bit and is just generally a good singer. As
- for all their songs sounding the same, why don't you try listening to more
- than 1 or 2 of the singles before you make statements that make you
- sound
- like an idiot.
- >
- gee, just noticed this one.
- well, your opinion is fine. must you start using terms like "you sound like

-
- 16th March - Leeds Town and Country
-
- Also...the album is definatly titled "The Middle of Nowhere" and will be
- released on February 8th 1999 (99%).
-
- There is one other confirmed titled track at the moment, which is Alison
- Goldfrapps vocal "Nothing Left"
-
- Also...the rock track that is the unusual track of the album was totally
- redone the last few weeks. Ive not heard the new version...but a source

- Hi all,
-
- I didn't get a chance to listen to the remix competition on Sunday (no net
- access @ home on weekends) and I read that the new Orbital release was
- played.
-
- Does anyone have any comments on it? I've heard the stylophone samples
- and I'm quite interested in what Orbital could do with it!
-
- I think the stylophone is used in a remix of Moby's "Go" if I'm not
- mistaken (Rainforest mix? don't have the cd handy).

-
- I'm not trying to "win" anything. I was making a joke...if you read what I
- said..."(I'm sorry, I don't mean to be QUITE that much of an asshole, but
- that one was too easy)." I.E. I was not seriously saying that my opinion
- of you is that you are an idiot. I really don't care if I change your
- opinion or anyone else's...I think your opinion that REM's songs all sound
- the same is unusually outlandish, so I am commenting on that fact.
-
- >i am honest: they do sound the same to me.
- >so according to you i am an idiot...so be it.
-
- Well, I must say that it sounds as though you have listened to more than
- the recent singles, so you do have some basis for what you are talking
- about, so I retract my idiot statement. If you had made that statement
- without any knowledge of REM's long career, I would say you were an idiot
- or at least ignorant, but since you can actually compare the old stuff to
- the new stuff I would have to say that your opinion is valid. Although I
- still see no basis for it...but whatever.
-
- >but anyone who also mentions
- >the "counting crows" and "live" as influential bands has got to be kidding.
-
- I never said that at all. I said "quality" bands not "influential". While
- I might argue that Live is influential (mostly because of the lyrics) I
- would not argue the same for Counting crows. I would say that both are
- quality bands however.

-
- On gemm.com under the orbital stuff they have one disc called "2+PEEL
- SESSIONS"...i.e. Orbital 2 plus another disc of the "peel sessions". I
- already have Orbital 2, but is it worth getting for the bonus disc? How
- good is the second disc (if anyone has it)? The other one I wanted to ask
- about is the Orbital "Untitled" one...it says it's a Japanese import. Does
- anyone know what this is?
-
- Also, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who recomended DJ Krush when
- I asked for recs for people that were similar to DJ Shadow. I got his
- album "Krush"...it's really good...very acid-jazzy. In case anyone wanted
- anything else like Shadow, I'd recomend this album
- "earthrise.shadow.3"...very good comp.

- Well I've got the Peel Session CD and it's great, but half of it's on
- Diversions, which is probably better value. But then that sample about
- nuclear something or other on Attached makes it better than the album

- But let's face it, 'Lost and Found' is better than anything I've ever heard
- by Krush (though he's pretty damn good). In fact, 'Lost and Found' is the

- Subject: (orbital) Harmless Prank, Anyone?
-
- Hey you guys (and gals), I was taking a shower a couple nights ago when
- a very interesting idea hit me. It's funny how the best ideas always
- come in the shower... er, but anyway, what I figured was to pull a
- little blitz on the All-Music Guide.
-
- For those of you who don't know, the All-Music Guide is probably the
- single best-selling compendium of artists and albums in the US. It's
- also my dad's Music Bible for looking up information about his gloopy
- oldies tunes. We've got a couple of these big-ass books here at home,
- and even though they're back from like 93, they still tip the hat to
- Orbital, the Orb, Kraftwerk, Aphex Twin, Global Communication, Black
- Dog, and the like. So on their website (http://www.allmusic.com) they've
- got even more info about techno, but not enough about bootlegs. I figure
- that if they have a listing for bootlegs it might as well be filled, but
- I turned in a couple bootleg entries to the AMG staff with no response.
-
- The point I'm gradually coming to is, what do you people think about
- trying to get one of Loopz' bootlegs immortalized in this gargantuan
- book? This would definitely be the way to put the man in the books of
- history, if you get my drift. I was thinking specifically of anyone on
- this list who wants Loopz to get his piece in the amg should go there
- and fill out an "Add Information" form for the Past/Live disc or some
- other of Loopz' venerable bootlegs. If enough people go to nag them
- about one or two bootlegs we'll get 'em to stick an entry under Orbital.
- Who knows with some luck it may even make the print edition!!
-
- So whoever wants in on this little prank, write the list and we'll see
- how many people jump on board here. If we get enough this plan may work,
- like that Gap riot we were planning (did it work anyway?) Thanx if u
- want to join!

- Because I have also been curious about Faithless for several years and love
- what I have heard from them, I went to see them In Washington D.C. on
- Wednesday. They were amazing! Although "God is a D.J." is very similar to
- "Insomnia" both tunes are very good...but not completely representative of
- their sound. They consist of a group of almost solo artists (a folk
- guitarist, two keyboardists, two drummers, etc.), but they mold their sounds
- togther. Sometimes dance, sometimes ambient, sometimes country music, or just
- rock...there's nothing quite like them. For that I respect them and recommend
- their albums (which I'm picking up very soon.)
- P.S. A newer group called Esthero opened the show...a lovely eclectic mix
- of a dj, trumpet player, two drummers, (an amazing) keyboardist, and one
- vocalist that sounds like bjork and a rapper that appears for a couple of
- songs. It's really relieving to see bands like Esthero and Faithless who
- create their own sounds and styles by using actual talent! (especially in the
- U.S. where I still can't believe that people actually listen to things like
- Bush and Matchbox 20).
- take it easy. Brian call me Dave

- Although I'll be happy to point out that Esthero are from Toronto, not
- the US. I know that wasn't really what you were saying but I still want
- credit for my country ;) Aside from Richie Hawtin I can't really think
- of any other Canadian talent that would get metioned on this list (FLA,
- but there a little hard for this list), not that we only discuss related

- 'ello there orbitalland. I just returned from an excellent performance by
- Faithless. They played a good mix of songs from Reverence and the new album.
- The addition of many live musicians creates a different and more complex sound
- than the albums... impressive. I don't think they have any U.S. dates left...
- they're on to Europe now. Definitely see them if y'all get a chance.
- Unfortunately, Esthero wasn't able to play the show in Boston. And strangely
- enough, Faithless wasn't the headliner. Asian Dub Foundation was headlining.
- I suppose that was a good thing though....
- While getting down to Asian Dub Foundation, I just happened to look back over
- my right shoulder... and I noticed that Maxi Jazz was standing right next to
- me...!! Battle stations. A little switch inside my brain marked "silly fan
- mode" suddenly flipped into the "ON" position. I spent the rest of ADF's
- performance completely ignoring the music and planning exactly what I was
- going to say to Mr. Jazz. Fortunately I had enough time to plan... and when
- the music was over, I managed to chat with Maxi for a while without sounding
- like too much of a silly fan. And yes, I walked away with an autograph that
- says For Aaron:
- Peace Brother!
- -Maxi Jazz
- Ok. Perhaps a bit of sillyfan-ness was in effect.
- and dammit.. I forgot to bring a copy of my CD! Arrrrrrg. Oh well...
- sillyfan combined with sillyselfpromoter might have been a bit too much for
- Mr. Jazz to bear. :)

- Sunday night (or monday morning, depending on your point of view)
