- Deep Dish is a group from DC, and also the name of their label.
- They released what I think is probably the best house album of the
- year, and maybe the best deep house album by an artist I've ever
- heard. It came out last month, and is called 'Junk Science'.
- Anyway, one of the deep dish guys went to high school with BT,
- and they got together sometime in the '93-'94 vicinity and started
- the Deep Dish label in order to release a song they had written, as
- well as one by BT, who was still going by Brian Transeau at the
- time. They split over some financial arguments in '95 but are back
- on good terms now. He released 2 songs prior to the stuff on IMA
- (as far as I know) and they are both available on the Deep Dish
- compilation (mixed by sharam and dubfire who are deep dish)
- 'Penetrate Deeper', which was ditributed on a wide scale by Tribal
- America (which is now defunct). I don't know if you can still find it
- or not, but if it's still available, you should be able to get it at
- blockbuster by special order (that's where mine came from). It's an
- awesome cd, 75 minutes of blissful deep house.

- For those of you who care-4 titles from Warp records will be available
- in the US through Nothing records. The titles are:
-
- Autechre-LP5
- Plaid-Not For Threes
- Squarepusher-Big Loada (special edition different from import)
- Squarepusher-Music Is Rotted One Note
-
- The first 3 titles were "released" yesterday even though most stores
- dont have them because we didnt receive the order sheets for them till
- last Friday. Squarepusher's new album was slated to be released on the
- same day as the import (Oct13th) but was pushed back a week because of
- artwork problems.
- Also, those of you who have been hoping to see Booth and Brown on tour
- in the US will be sad to find out that the planned US appearances aside
- from the NYC show this month have been postponed till next year. :( This
- could change at anytime, but this is the current status.
- One last thing-those of you who are lucky enough to have access to XLR8R
- magazine will have an opportunity to get a free nothing records
- electronic music sampler featuring tracks by plaid, Ae, Squarepusher,
- Plug and the Bowling Green. If you dont have access to this mag, your
- local indie record store can call nothing records or caroline
- distribution to beg fro some of these samplers.

- They have a single Disc which is the same as the First Disc in my set (I

- I think a similar track listing to the Halcyon 2CD, but it doesn't have

- Chime live or Impact live. Anyone have this one? LAter.

- house of the last two or so years: Two Lone Swordsmen's 'Swimming not

-
- Well LP5 was the cause for much talk when it came out, and Autechre was a
- hot subject all through may and june... and a bit around august 1st when
- they did their 3 location flash-tour of canada... Hell I still have
- nightmares featuring Dave Kristian's performance (on a side note)....
-
- I think that LP5 is noisy, that its musical worth is minimal if not
- nonexistant. After giving it months of regular listening I can't seem to get
- to really like it. The line between music and random noise may have been
- stretched to snapping this time. Amber was fantastic, TriRepetae was daring,
- Cichli suite was a limit... LP5 is over the edge. Their live set was
- "interesting", yes, you can see that they have quite mastered their
- equipment, however all they did was beats, only beats, with rythtmic and
- bass synths over, and lots of randomness, and even though randomness is a
- part of beauty to quote Beaudelaire, expression is, too and there is no
- expression that I can feel in this. Could be me, but could be them. I can't
- say I was terribly excited either by their gig or album. They are going
- steadilly downhill imho. They still have my faith, for having made such
- amazing pieces as Amber, Garbage, Incunabula and to some extent TriRepetae,
- and I will buy their next album blind, but I'm affraid it'll just be worse.
- I think that even though it was a close call, Autechre do not deserve to be
- put on the same step as Orbital and Underworld on the near-top of the music
- I love.

- I do take into consideration that this is just your opinion, but I do have
- to say, you have odd taste. LP5 was absolutely amazing and what made it so
- amazing is how they took just noises and made them so perfect and beautiful.
- It is very daring, but if it weren't, then it wouldn't be Autechre. They
- have always been on the leading edge and as other groups begin to do what
- they do, they have to move on to new territory. It's a real shame that you
- can't appreciate this album like I do. A lot of people find that it's just
- too much all at once which makes it hard to take in. I do agree that their
- live set should have had more then just the beats, but that night at the
- Palladium (club I saw them in) was one of the highlights of the summer.
- just my thoughts on the matter so no one think that this is a flame, just an

- Well I love LP5 (and all other Ae I've got except for perhaps Incunabula),

- Yes, it's arguably the original techno (oh apart from Kraftwerk, etc,
- etc.... but I'm not getting into that one again). Imagine if techno was
- really funky. Direct Beat records from Detroit specialise in it. And it's
- really good. Give Dynamix II's 'Electro Megamix', Dave Clarke's 'Electro
