i was listening to out there somewhere live on the web site and looked
down at the pictures below the player to see what the show looked like and
saw "1945" on the screens behind the duo .. whats the connection between
OUT THERE SOMEWHERE and the year 1945?

The last track is Attached.  Personally, I liked the quiet music but
once anyone listens to Peel Sessions, you are apt to think differently
of that song.  When P&P mixed Semi-Detached with Attached, it was so
perfect.  I dont know, I like Attached more now than I did before.

    If you hurry, you can get it on the 2-disc version of In Sides that
is still available. The single disc release has started to appear in
the US finally, but you can still get the 2-disc version. It has a
sticker on the front that says the bonus disc has 'The Saint' on it.
You can also order it from cdnow.com. I think it would be listed
there as the '97 version.

    Well, considering that the main sample in the song is reversed from
the song it was taken from, I doubt if it was too much of a stretch
for them..But I like the part where it suddenly reverses, after being
played forward at first. The Bon Jovi part can piss off, for all I
care.

Here is my interpretion of the sybolism of 1945-mind you that my interp
is Out There.
 To the best of my knowledge, OTS, is about visitation/contact with
alien or extraterrestrial life.  When you see Orbital perform it live,
they have an image of a UFO swooping down as if visiting our dear
planet.  During the mid-forties while the USA was testing the atomic
bombs we so kindly developed it is believed that these bombs sent off
signature waves or other ways of informing those who might be listening
that we have harnessed the power of the atom.  Sort of like the Star
Trek movie- First Contact- the noise from our planet alerted others to
our presence.  So if the theory is correct, following these atomic
explosions, we unwillingly invited a plethora of greys, reptilians and
other reported E.T.s(is this getting too X-File-ish?) to Earth. 1945 was
just a few years before the reported Roswell, NM UFO crash,  which at
the time was the only base to house nuclear weopons.  I guess there are
too many pieces to this puzzle-we should ask the Hartnolls, or Steve
Price for interpretation.   This is just my thoughts on the matter, no
write or wrong answer of course.

yep...1.99 which was set by the record company...but it was ACTUALLY the
record shops that took into their own decision to up the price to 3.49
or 4.29 a week later...not the record company. But the record company
are a bunch of w^$?$% as well :)

I thought it was a wise move....personally...its a good thing to hear
but the radio would have picked up on that purely for the BJ/BC
samples...which would take away from the well constructed track. I mean
Halcyon is a classic track but ... dont milk an empty cow :)

As far as I know, there are now 3 versions of the bonus cds.  I have 2
of them.  One has Times Fly (fast and slow), Sad But New, Tranquilizer,
The Box (all 28 mins of it).  The other one has: Satan live, Satan,
Saint, Halycon (live), The Sinner.
There is a third one, from Germany I think, which has chime/impact
(live) and couple other tracks.  I am not positive about this one.  It
might be part of another disc.  I am positive, however, that it is not
part of Satan Live Part III.

I have to say that Diversions is my favorite too...
Very nice listening while flying, especially take off and landings.
I could take off and land all day long with Diversions playing!
Also, I think Crash & Carry was the best song on Sniv as well!!!
I have that on our playlist here at iRFU...

Hi all

Went to see the Propellerheads last night here in Belgium - I can honestly say that they're a lot better than the duff NME reviews suggested. Are they playing on the Vapour UK tour or not?

Anyroad, point of all this... got back and decided to do some ironing (as you do) and so I put on the Prodigy video for some background listening.... I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but it's about bloody time Orbital put out something similar. Judging by the number of 'just seen xxx video for the first time on MTV's new "crack of dawn" show and it rocked' posts here I think a compilation of such vids / live numbers for general release would be more than justified.

People power! Let's make a call on this one!

I have always found Orbital so incredibly moving live that I hardly
even notice anyone else is there but them and me.
If you collect live bootlegs then crowd noise is just a fact of life,
all the unique variations from show to show make them exiting,
even though the quality of the recodings are no where near the studio
versions. The live experience is supposed to capture the whole thing,
crowd and all, if they didn't add crowd noise then who is to say
that anyone was even there when they played?
I really don't see why it annoys you...

I think he's right. Or more likely it just refers to the general
feeling. Look it up in the dictionary...
The way the song is, it doesn't seem like the kind of song that
would put you right to sleep like the drug does, perhaps the bird
could be what they refer to, but most likely the song induces
a feeling of halcyon. And don't forget about +on+on, that probably
doesn't mean birds or drugs either...the feeling goes on and on.
Just my thoughts on the matter...

I've been on this list for I don't know how long, and for the last
couple months, I've been far too busy with school, and other things,
including my own music, to keep up with this list.

As my mailbox stands right now, with 224 messages in it, the 180 unread
ones are all Orbital-related.  I feel that that is a sign to unsubscribe
from the list, so that is what I am doing.

Aimee - you keep these people on their toes.  Peggy - don't worry, I
*will* send you that tape.

Regarding my music, I've just earned two recording contracts - each of
them is for contribution of a single song to two different Industrial
compilation CDs.  Both CDs are compilations of Seattle and other
Northwest area Industrial artists.  One of them will be called "Glory Of
Destruction [v.2]", (v.1 has recently been released) on Catastrophe
Records, and the other will be called "Evolution" on Evolution Child
Records.  Both labels are Seattle indies, and I am not sure about
national or international distribution.  For those of you that are
interested, please visit my website (the URL is below), and keep
checking for info regarding these CDs.  I've been too busy to update the
page, but I *will* get around to it.

Having bought endless numbers of the Insides CDs, there are indeed several
versions.
The original was on it's own, the next had the Box/Times Fly singles on the
extra CD. The last one had The Saint single + a live version of Halcyon.
The double cd's seemed to be US import only. and the live Halcyon was only
on the import - not the UK release of the single.

Oh, and the one I don't have has "The Saint" as an extra track tacked on the
end.

All I know is what's in my CD collection ;)

well, i don't know about the older ones (from snivil and backwards) but I
saw in sides in a local music store last saturday (the re-release containing
the "the sinner" track, BUT not the "the saint" track). anyway, it had the
whole track listing off "in sides" at least. :)

btw, a question from my side just to get the naming convention right. is it
"in sides" or "insides"? i prefer the first one, but that's no good if it's
the wrong one. ;)

The Box (all 28 mins of it).  The other one has: Satan live, Satan,
Saint, Halycon (live), The Sinner.
There is a third one, from Germany I think, which has chime/impact
(live) and couple other tracks.

i got the same thing going on too...  i remember a couple of weeks ago... it
was late, and i crawled in my bed.  because of some reason, i like to fall
asleep with some music on (orbital-underworld-portishead-whateverthatsgood)
and that time, i had snivilisation in, at 'are we here'... i saw the video
that evening, and i found the music in the video awesome, so i thought to
give sniv a try...  i was half sleeping while attached came up, and in my
sleep, i followed the violins sample (at least it sounds so) coming up and
getting down... something i didn't hear before... it's just coincidence to
jump on just one sample, and follow it.

same thing with lush 3-1, lush 3-2, and so on from the brown album.  i
didn't give those numbers a lot of attention (i loved halcyon and planet of
the shapes, but i had the idea in my mind that the rest was more like 'walk
now' with an 'annoying' sound...)  i was driving on the countryside, with
the brown on, and it's just great to experience that chilly feeling down
your spine when you hear something...  love it since then.  idem out there
somewhere...  that clarinet (sounds like it) and that flute (idem) playing
that slow melody, while a faster melody is echoed...  love it...  and that
slow melody lasts for a long time, but the faster melody changes...

On the other hand: the first time i heard the album version of the box, i
immediately heard the voices at the end... but now, i can't seem to hear
them, or at least they don't pop up as much like they used to do...

anyway, it makes listening orbital more fun than other groups... can't
remember having the same effects with underworld or so...  you never get
tired listening orbital...  if only my friends would understand it...

hey, i definitely know what go mean. in the good good songs - tgwtsihh, the box,
halcyon, and a lot of sniv, there's always something new when i listen to it. (or maybe i
have severe memory loss... :> )

Wow, i definitely know what you mean with lush, although the brown album was the last
i got (aside from div). my first experience with lush 3 was the second satan single, and
what a good single it was. i got it on new years eve, played it twice, and over the next
few hours people kept on saying "someone put two on!" ("two" being the biggest word
visible on the single) i loved satan, and tgwtsihh, but to me lush 3 was just the bit in the
middle between those two songs.
then, about 8 months later i copied it onto tape and was playing it on my walkman when
its sheer brilliance hit me. it was like joy on tape! i wondered how i could have missed
it, and for a while i listened to nothing else. i never got that buzz buzz buzz joy quite the
same again, but i still love it :) i just wondered how i could have missed *it* for so long :)

and if you've got this far... CONGRATULATIONS!

i really think i'd have to agree, except for the fact that in the last couple of months sniv
got sooooo good. i never much cared for it, until i went back to it and realised it was so
different and amazing compared to everything else, and it was no where near my
favourite until recently. i do love diversions tho :)

It was the other way round for me. Lush was THE track from brown, Planet of
the shapes was 'the one before Lush' and Impact was 'the one after Lush'
for a year or two. Then I got Diversions and it struck me that Impact
really is brilliant (though the album version is still my least favourite).
Planet of the shapes is still 'the one before Lush', but the Underworld mix
has been my fave Lush for a good four years now, though the 1926 mix is
creeping up on it this past month or so.

    Actually, I have to agree completely. I liked attached to begin
with, but after a few serious listenings to the peel sessions, it
made the full album version just sound amazing. The Peel Sessions
version is great, but the album version is just so fine tuned it
sounds more like a 3rd track add-on the the peel sessions version,
sort of a final culmination of all the buildup.
