  43. electronic music has "stages" that it has to be made in...orbital is 
  44. no exception...
  45. usually always first comes the drum programming. this can be done with 
  46. sound programs on the comp, samples from actual drums, or programming 
  47. a drum machine...either way it takes some work and patience to get the 
  48. beat exactly right.
  49. usually next comes the rest of the compositional rhythm. cymbals, 
  50. rhythm guitar, certain electronical noises, etc. these all usually 
  51. have to be mixed on the table, and then looped when they sound 
  52. right...composing is a LOT harder than it looks.
  53. after the rhythm is mixed in with the drum programming, next comes 
  54. lyrics (if any) which will also be mixed in...
  55. usually when these "electronic sound" bands play live they have 
  56. several comps set up with the samples programmed in...then, to 
  57. perform, they have huge mixing tables that they use to mix the music 
  58. right before your eyes....the music never sounds the same twice in 
  59. such ways...unless they make NO mistakes and do it at PERFECT levels, 
  60. exactly where they recorded it.
  61. tell your friend that electronic music is an art which takes great 
  62. levels of composition and expertise in the areas of electronics and 
  63. recording/mixing, and if he knew anything about music, hed know that 
  64. too... it is one thing to pick up a guitar and hit a few power chords 
  65. and have someone on bass and drums, it is another thing to sample a 
  66. bunch of sounds from everyday life and put them together to make a 
  67. song which is composed well and makes you say, "Man, this kicks ass!". 
  68. if your friend knew anything about music, hed know that too...
