  26.   32 MB RAM required (64 MB recommended)

  28.   XFree86 3.3.5 or newer at 16bpp

  44. Run the self-extracting demo executable.

  53. Change to the SoF-demo directory and run 'sof',  e.g.:

  55.   $ cd sof-demo
  56.   $ ./sof

  58. The first time you run Soldier of Fortune it will create a
  59. ~/.loki/sof-demo directory. Saved games, preferences, etc., will be
  60. stored here.

  62. Soldier of Fortune has an advanced command line configuration
  63. system. Some commonly used options are:
  64.  
  65.   +map <map name>                - Load map <filename> at startup
  66.   +set gl_driver <filename>      - Use OpenGL driver <filename>
  67.   +set console 1                 - Enable use of the console
  68.  
  69. An example of using these would be:
  70.  
  71.   $ ./sof +set gl_driver ./libGL.so.1.2.030200 +set console 1 +map trn1

  73. If you need to disable DGA mouse (in bash):
  74.  
  75.   $ export SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0

  77. Then run Soldier of Fortune normally.

  79. To connect to a multiplayer game over the Internet, use the "connect"
  80. command in the console, or on the command-line. E.g., if the server is
  81. at 192.168.1.37, you would use:

  83. $ ./sof +connect 192.168.1.37
  84.  
  85. Or, in-game, use '~' to bring down the console and type "connect
  86. 192.158.1.37".

  88. To connect to a LAN game, simply select it from the server list and
  89. then click on its name.

  110. Q: My screen goes all funny and dissolves at the beginning of a
  111.    mission.

  113. A: This is a problem with Mesa and 3DFX cards. A newer Mesa may solve
  114.    the problem for you.

  116. Q: I can see through some walls and doors.

  118. A: This is a problem with Mesa. A newer Mesa may solve the problem for
  119.    you.

  121. Q: I get flickering triangles all over the screen during cinematics.

  136. A: Try turning detail textures off and setting the Ghoul lighting
  137.    method to "Flat" for an 8-10 fps boost.
