  20.   Linux capable computer, Pentium class or PPC processor
  21.   Linux kernel version 2.2.x
  22.   16 MB RAM
  23.   4x CD-ROM drive
  24.   Video card capable of 1024x768 resolution
  25.   XFree86 version 3.2 or newer at either 8 or 16 bpp.
  26.   /dev/dsp sound device for audio
  27.     (the Enlightenment Sound Daemon is supported as well).

  32. (2) PLAYING THE GAME

  35.     Run the 'rt2_demo' binary in the demo directory to start the game.
  36.  
  37.     The first time you run Railroad Tycoon II it will create a .loki/rt2_demo
  38.     directory in your home directory.  Saved games and preferences will
  39.     be stored here.

  41.     The following arguments may be given to Railroad Tycoon II:

  43.         [-h | --help]           Display this help message
  44.         [-v | --version]        Display the game version
  45.         [-f | --fullscreen]     Run the game fullscreen
  46.         [-w | --windowed]       Run the game in a window
  47.         [-s | --nosound]        Do not access the soundcard
  48.         [-z | --compress]       Compress save games and scenarios
  49.  
  50.     Use Ctrl-G to toggle mouse grabbing.
  51.  
  52.     Use Ctrl-Z to iconify the game when it is run in a window.

  54.     The Print Screen key will save the current screen to the ~/.loki/rt2
  55.     directory.

  57.     If the Print Screen, Pause, or Alt-# keys are not working,
  58.     make sure your window manager is not overriding them.

  60.     String widgets have standard UNIX keybindings.

  62.         Ctrl-A - Move to beginning of line

  64.         Ctrl-B - Move backwards

  77. The following are some of the more common problems you might have, and
  78. recommended solutions:
  79.  
  80. A) Program displays 'Unable to set up video mode' message
  81.  
  82.    Railroad Tycoon II requires a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768.  
  83.    Virtually all desktop PCs sold since fall of 1996 (and most since 1994)
  84.    are capable of this resolution.  If your PC or laptop cannot display
  85.    that resolution, then you won't be able to play Railroad Tycoon II.

  88. B) There is no game sound.
  89.  
  90.    First, check all your connections between your speakers and your 
  91.    computer.  Make sure your speakers are turned on and receiving power.  
  92.    Make sure the volume is not turned down all the way.  You can change
  93.    sound and music volume in the 'Game Options' window.
  94.    If none of the above suggestions works, try producing sound in another 
  95.    program.  If that does not work, make sure you have the sound driver
  96.    enabled in your kernel.  Finally, go to http://www.opensound.com/
  97.    to see whether a commercial driver is available for your sound card.

  100. C) The screen scrolls sluggishly - overall performance seems slow.

  102.    Go into 'Game Options', and in the 'Graphics' section, lower
  103.    the detail settings.
