  11. Thank you for playing the Heretic II demo.  The demo includes two single
  12. player and two deathmatch levels from the full game.

  14. The full version of Heretic II comes with a full campaign chronicling
  15. the journey of Corvus through the plague-filled lands of Parthoris.
  16. It also includes 24 maps of deathmatch and cooperative network play.

  29. Pentium 166 MHz with 3D accelerator card, 
  30.     233 MHz for software rendering
  31. Linux kernel version 2.2.x
  32. GNU libC version 2.1.1 (/lib/libc-2.1.1.so)
  33. 32 MB RAM required (64 MB recommended)
  34. Video card capable of 800x600 resolution
  35. XFree86 version 3.3.x, at 16 bpp depth
  36. OSS compatible sound card
  37. Hard drive with 100 MB of free disk space

  39. For systems without a 3D accelerator card, a software rendering
  40. engine is provided, but a 3D card is recommended for the most
  41. immersive experience.

  43. This demo supports the Voodoo graphics chipsets with the included
  44. Mesa 3D driver.  Other cards may be supported as well.  Consult

  49. 2. Installing and Running the Demo

  51. The Heretic II demo comes in a self-extracting archive. Simply execute 
  52. the archive with the following command:
  53.  
  54. sh heretic2-demo.run
  55.  
  56. The demo data will be unpacked in a 'heretic2_demo' directory. To run the
  57. demo, just run the 'heretic2_demo' binary in this new directory.

  59. Binaries are provided for the x86 architectures.

  65. See the file "QuickStart.txt" for detailed instructions on playing
  66. the game.

  68. A few tips:

  70. If you want to run in software mode, start the game with the options:
  71.     +set vid_ref soft
  72.  
  73. If you want to run in hardware mode, start the game with the options:
  74.     +set vid_ref glx
  75.  
  76. You can specify a GL driver to be loaded by adding the following options:
  77.     +set gl_driver /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
  78. where "/usr/lib/libGL.so.1" is the full path of the GL driver you want.

  80. Note: Mesa 3.0 does not work correctly with Heretic II and Voodoo cards.
