  28. As with any other internet service, it is possible that the Tribes 2
  29. dedicated server contains security weaknesses.  For this reason we
  30. recommend that you never run this software on a system that contains
  31. sensitive data or behind a firewall that protects a secure network.

  40.   32 MB RAM required (64 MB recommended)

  45. (3) INSTALLATION
  46. ----------------

  48. This dedicated server installation requires the Windows CD.
  49. If you have already installed the Linux client, you already have the 
  50. dedicated server as well, and you don't need to install this package.
  51.  
  52. 1. Mount the Windows Tribes 2 CD
  53.    If for some reason the CD detection code doesn't work, set the 
  54.    environment variable "SETUP_CDROM" to the path where the Windows
  55.    Tribes 2 CD is mounted.

  57. 2. Run the archive file to extract it and start the installer:
  58.  
  59.     sh tribes2d-wincd.run
  60.  
  61.    If the checksum verification fails, make sure you downloaded the
  62.    file in binary mode and that the download wasn't corrupted.
  63.  
  64.    If you haven't already installed the Loki Update Tool or Loki Uninstall
  65.    Tool, the installer will prompt you to install these before installing
  66.    the main product.

  68.    Once the installation is complete, the update tool will be run to
  69.    ensure that you have the latest updates to the game.  No information
  70.    about you is sent to the server during this process, and this does
  71.    not register your product.

  75. (4) STARTING THE SERVER
  76. -----------------------

  78. The Linux version of the game includes a dedicated server which does not
  79. require you to log in or even use a graphical display.  The binary is called
  80. "tribes2d" and resides in your TRIBES 2 installation directory.  To run the
  81. standalone dedicated server, pass it the "-dedicated" command line option,
  82. followed by the name of the first map, and the type of game to run.
  83.  
  84. For example, to start a game of Capture The Flag on the Katabatic map, you
  85. would do the following:
  86.  
  87.     Log in as the user you created to run Tribes 2
  88.     cd /path/to/installed/game
  89.     ./tribes2d -dedicated Katabatic CTF
  90.  
  91. The first time the dedicated server runs, it will create the directory
  92. ~/.loki/tribes2 and place default configuration files there.  You can
  93. customize the advanced server settings by editing the file
  94. ~/.loki/tribes2/base/prefs/ServerPrefs.cs
  95.  
  96. You can specify the number of bots to run on the command line by using
  97. the -bot N command line option.
  98.  
  99. For example, to use the default map and game type with 10 bots, you 
  100. would do the following:
  101.  
  102.     cd /path/to/installed/game
  103.     ./tribes2d -dedicated -bot 10
  104.  
  105. If for some reason the server is crashing frequently, you can use the
  106. script "tribes2d-restart.sh" to automatically restart the dedicated
  107. server.  This script will also look for updates on the internet when
  108. it starts, to keep your server up to date.

  114. The following are some of the more common problems you might have, and
  115. recommended solutions:

  117. A) I logged in to the account for the Tribes 2 server, but I can't
  118.    update the game!
  119.  
  120.    You probably installed the game as root.  Make sure that you are
  121.    logged in as the user you installed the game with to run loki_update.
