  1. This is James Cook University Anonymous ftp service.
  2. Files available for anonymous ftp are listed in the file pub.find.Z.

  12. All files in the JCU anonymous FTP area (ftp.jcu.edu.au:/pub) ending with 
  13. .gz have been compressed with `gzip'
  14. .Z  have been compressed with `compress'
  15. .z  have been compresses with `pack'
  16.  
  17. Gzip can uncompress `compress' files(which end in .Z) and `pack' files
  18. (which end in `.z').  This is possible because the various
  19. decompression algorithms are not patented---only compression is.
  20.  
  21. The gzip program is available from any GNU mirror site in shar, tar, or
  22. gzipped tar format (for those who already have a prior version of gzip and
  23. want faster data transmission).  It works on virtually every unix system,
  24. MSDOS, OS/2, and VMS.

  27. the file `pub.find.gz' in this directory.

  29. Although we perform periodic updates to this FTP site, more current downloads
  30. and resources can be found at http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au.  Access to the
  31. AARNet mirror is OnNet traffic and free to staff and students of JCU
  32. while connected via our main campuses. NB: Connection Off-campus will be
  33. metered.

  36. to staff and students of JCU while connected via our main campuses.
