  93.     cheap sex and gore in the film industry there was such a thing
  94.     as banality for banality's sake. Herein lies such fantastic stuff.
  95.     A giant gila monster makes the rounds in tinker-toy towns and
  96.     terrorizes local teens who are always pictured driving around
  97.     in their hotrods or having sock hops. (This is the type of film,
  98.     by the way, where the actors all use their _real_ first names
  99.     in the script.) The lizard is eventually beaten by a brave lad
  100.     who drives his hotrod full of nitro into the belly of the beast.

  122.     A young man from out of this world is sent to do the Earth in.
  123.     Complications arise when he falls in love with a local teen queen.
  124.     To make matters even worse, a monster from his spaceship is loose
  125.     and, from what the audience can see of its shadowy form, it appears
  126.     to be a lobster. With love showing the way, the homo sap from space
  127.     guides his invading comrades' fleet into the side of a large hill.
  128.     Destroying himself, the big lobster, and the thousands of ships in
  129.     one large splat (unseen), the unearthly adolescent makes the
  130.     supreme sacrifice in saving Earth.
  131.     An excerpt from "The Incredibly Strange Creatures who Stopped
  132.     Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies," by Lester Bangs. (Collected in
  133.     Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung):
  134.     "I recall reading an item on the entertainment page of the
  135.     daily paper after Teenagers from Outer Space came out to the effect
  136.     that responsible people all over were so turned off by this pic
  137.     that the financial angels and bureaucratic bosses of the studio
  138.     that sponsored and released it ganged up on the poor guy that made
  139.     the film, and gave him a good talking-to about devoting his talents
  140.     to such a piece of trash, and even if it was his first film he
  141.     should think of the public interest, etc. The item ended by saying
  142.     that the guy had actually apologized, and promised to do better
  143.     with the money that was given him for his second film."
  144.     (For those of you who haven't heard of Lester Bangs, he was a rock
  145.     critic for various 60's and 70's era magazines such as Crawdaddy
  146.     and Creem.  "Psychotic Reactions..." collects some of the best of
  147.     his work, and should be required reading for anyone attempting to
  148.     understand rock and roll.  Just ignore what he says about Lou Reed
  149.     [he's far too enthusiastic] and Yes [he doesn't understand them].---Rsk)

  250.     tricks his stepmother into revealing what magical treats she has
  251.     cooked up for his twenty-first birthday. Locking mother dear in the
  252.     basement, George collects his wondrous assortment of gifts (a magic
  253.     sword, six of the bravest warriors in the history of the earth and
  254.     a magic horse) and sets out to save the princess. Along the way he
  255.     meets vampire hags, giant ghouls, deadly swamps and the ever-

  257.     surrounded by misshapen pinheads, dwarfs and a race of tiny people
  258.     no more than six inches tall. Masterful fairy tale.

  341.     of ths subsequent AIP-television films were also remakes of
  342.     previous AIP films, among them: Creature of Destruction, Year 2889,
  343.     and the unforgettable Mars Needs Women.

  389.     far more EVIL!!!!
  390.     Herschell Gordon Lewis made his mark by inventing the Gore film in
  391.     the early 60's with "Blood Feast", "2000 Maniacs", and "Color Me
  392.     Blood Red". But he made lots of films for Southern drive-ins,
  393.     and one of these was a little hillbilly action flick called
  394.     "Moonshine Mountain". He needed to get the film out fairly quickly,
  395.     but he also needed a second feature for it. He searched around and
  396.     found that Bill Rebane had been making a film called "Terror At
  397.     Half Bay", and had run out of money. Lewis bought it, and
  398.     discovered he had 100,000 feet of nothing. Some sequences were done
  399.     but there was very little connecting footage. He shot closeups of
  400.     hands, feet, people walking down halls, ANYTHING to get this one to
  401.     hang together. He redid the dialogue <such as it was> and added the
  402.     crummy narration. Using the name "Sheldon Seymour", Lewis did the
  403.     new dialogue, narration, and editing. Dubbing it "Monster-A-Go-Go",
  404.     he foisted this puswad onto the public, and it actually did quite
  405.     well down south, with "Moonshine Mountain".
