Kyle's Pain
===========================================================================
Kyle had had enough. He was tired. He was sore. He was
confused. Now this bully of an Orc named Grunalf was trying to
torment him. Kyle did not know whether Grunalf's threats were real,
or whether he was just feeding on Kyle's fear for his own pleasure.
Of a sudden, Kyle didn't care anymore. A subtle defiance began to
rebuild in him.
Grunalf may have had Kyle's hands confined, but the boys legs
were free. Mustering all his courage and strength, Kyle brought his
knee up swiftly and solidly into the groin of the smelly Orc.
Grunalf howled in pain as Kyle's knee connected. He clutched
the boy's chin, hard, as if this somehow reduced the pain he felt.
Kyle could feel his jaw crack under the Orc's grip.
Rage filled Grunalf. How dare this human whelp cause his
favorite organ so much pain? He raised his right hand, and brought it
down hard against the boy's face with a loud *crack*. "ARRGGUUH! FIS
KAL U MEL!" he screamed at Kyle, who slumped to the floor.
Kyle never heard the scream. He briefly felt his jaw crumble
under Grunalf's harsh blow, followed by a sharp pain that shot from
his neck and ran all the way down his spine. Blessfully, things
became blurry fast, and before he hit the ground, he was surrounded in
darkness.
"Get Up! Get UP!" Grunalf screamed at Kyle's limp body, as he
repeatedly kicked him, heedless of the crunching sounds coming from the
boy's breaking ribs or of his brother's trying to pull him away.
Kyle smiled as Finn appeared out of the darkness and took his
hand. The darkness melted away revealing the woods he frequented as a
boy, and together they followed a little known path that led to Kyle's
favorite place. A cave upon a hill where they could look out upon the
woods through the waterfall which partly covered the entrance...
"Grunalf! Stop! You Kill him!"
The guard shoved the brothers and Grunalf hard, so that Grunalf
lost his balance and fell against the wall. He grabbed Grunalf by the
cuff of his neck and hoisted him off of Kyle and out of the cell.
Grunalf's brothers were quick to follow. He bent over to verify that
Kyle was indeed alive.
The high sun filled the woods which radiate with life. The stream
itself sparkled, as if it shared the laughter in his heart. "This is
my favorite place," Kyle told Finn, beaming a smile in her direction.
He was so glad to have the chance of sharing the beauty of the woods
he loved with her.
"Grunalf lucky," the guard said, "Ygroth very angry if boy
dies."
Finn smiled sadly at Kyle. Then she turned away and walked
further into the cave until she was hidden in the blackness, leaving
Kyle alone at the entrance.
Leaving the broken and bleeding boy on the floor of his prison
cell, the guard locked to door.
"Finn? Where are you Finn?" Kyle cried out, but could not
follow. The cave ended abruptly and would not allow him to penetrate
the darkness which had engulfed the girl. He sat forlornly at the
entrance, watching the water fall as the sun disappeared behind clouds.
"Grunalf leave now," he said, and returned to his post of
watching the cell. He did not look at Grunalf or his brothers as they
grudgingly trudged back down the corridor.
