In hindsight this view was a1 best mistaken. at worse ludicrous. 'Planes needed fuel to stay aloft, and were limited to tiny fraction of a 'dig' cargo capacity Once Fleury' Gas (b) was developed. the 'plane was essentially dead as serious form of transport. but still popular for sport despite an appalling accident rate By the late 1990s the market had contracted to a point where it was simply uneconomical for any builder to manufacture 'planes.
